www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/nancy-pfotenhauer/2014/05/12/even-warren-buffet-admits-wind-energy-is-a-bad-investmentDespite being famous for touting the idea that the rich don’t pay their fair share of taxes, investor Warren Buffet seems to be perfectly fine with receiving tax breaks for making investments in Big Wind. "I will do anything that is basically covered by the law to reduce Berkshire's tax rate," Buffet told an audience in Omaha, Nebraska recently. "For example, on wind energy, we get a tax credit if we build a lot of wind farms. That's the only reason to build them. They don't make sense without the tax credit."

You guys can be the World's textbook example of the socialized, green energy economy. Take good notes. Negative experimental results are so under-published.

The wife called. The house is COLD
My reply, I know we are out of fuel oil, but the elec backup should be working. WELL, it isn't!
Monday, April 17 11:56:35
Load management is needed today due to low wind, high prices, and Coyote being de-rated.
Wonderful! I wasn't going to fill the fuel oil tank as spring is here, and the little heat required wouldn't be worth letting an almost full tank get so old prior to next heating season. The question becomes......do I suffer a cold wife or get some fuel oil for the tank?
Looking at the long term forecast, I may have to get 100 gallons to put in tank.
Sheeeesh. Never thought we would get cycled now!!!!

From the Web:
Mineral Resources of North Dakota: COAL. Western North Dakota contains an estimated 351 billion tons of lignite, the single largest deposit of lignite known in the world.
And Sig can't get electricity! Is there something wrong with this picture? Is this South Australia? Ratty?

A bunch of Democrats got on Minnkota's board, and the Rural Elec Coop board. They are gaga over wind energy. I went to the annual meeting and when I stood and asked how much our rates have gone up so that we can "enjoy" having the elec turned off, I was not a popular guy with the Board of Dir. I sure did a lot of questions after the meeting tho!!!

Anthracite, bad. Lignite, really bad.
No Missouri, South Australia is definitely not North Dakota but there might be some interbreeding .....

YEAR ROUND, whether the wind is blowing or not! AS far as interbreeding, one of the directors DID go to Aussie several years ago.....mmmmm.......a virus perhaps? This whole thing has just gotten nuts. Doubling of rates in 6 years, and now no power on demand. And the REC wonders why the small profit of the coop is getting smaller? ?......they "can't" sell enough juice! WELL, they have to GENERATE the stuff before it can be sold!

And to top it all off, Minnkota has taken its wind generation site DOWN! So that folks can't SEE how lousy it is at generating electricty!

Tell the board that if they don;t step up their game, they could personally be required to generate that extra energy the old fashioned way ... chained to the oars as in the classic scene from "the Magic Christian". www.youtube.com/watch?v=OokCkaNP5-s

[[[Mineral Resources of North Dakota: COAL. Western North Dakota contains an estimated 351 billion tons of lignite, the single largest deposit of lignite known in the world.]]]
Actually, not correct.
The Latrobe Valley in Victoria has the largest known deposit.
At Morwell, the seam is about 250 meters thick, and about 10 kms across.
At Bairnsdale, about 150 kms further East, the seam is about 60 meters thick.
It is believed to be continuous all the way. The amount has never been estimated, but should be North of a trillion tons.

But, we can't use it Doug because it's dirty ..... You should lobby your parliamentary representatives to blow up the Hazelwood power station, preferably tomorrow. Will they have the courage to do that in light of South Australia's experience?

I believe that Hazelwood will be demolished soon.
In mid-winter and mid-summer, I expect regular brown outs and blackouts.
You cannot shut down 25% of a state's power without consequences.
South Australia has a real problem. 500 MW of power on the interconnector will not be available.
