"Wind turbines are neither clean nor green and they provide zero global energy We urgently need to stop the ecological posturing and invest in gas and nuclear Matt Ridley
The Global Wind Energy Council recently released its latest report, excitedly boasting that ‘the proliferation of wind energy into the global power market continues at a furious pace, after it was revealed that more than 54 gigawatts of clean renewable wind power was installed across the global market last year’.
You may have got the impression from announcements like that, and from the obligatory pictures of wind turbines in any BBC story or airport advert about energy, that wind power is making a big contribution to world energy today. You would be wrong. Its contribution is still, after decades — nay centuries — of development, trivial to the point of irrelevance......" www.spectator.co.uk/2017/05/wind-turbines-are-neither-clean-nor-green-and-they-provide-zero-global-energy/

"Consumers “Grossly Overpaying” For Electricity Date: 10/01/19
Press Release, Global Warming Policy Foundation Damning report says we could have had the same CO2 emissions reductions for a fraction of the price London 10 January: A new report from the Global Warming Policy Foundation finds that UK consumers are paying far too much for the emissions reductions delivered by renewable energy. The report, by Dr Capell Aris, is the result of extensive energy system modelling, and reports the costs, greenhouse gas emissions and grid security delivered by the current grid and by a series of counterfactual energy systems. As Dr Aris explains: “The dash for gas of the 1990s delivered lower carbon dioxide emissions and lower costs. If we had simply continued, we could now be enjoying electricity prices 30-40% lower than today, with similar carbon dioxide emissions, and vastly better grid security. Consumers are grossly overpaying for a very unreliable system.”"www.thegwpf.org/uk-consumers-grossly-overpaying-for-electricity/

"There had been only eight recorded sightings of the white-throated needletail in the UK since 1846. So when one popped up again on British shores this week, twitchers were understandably excited. A group of 40 enthusiasts dashed to the Hebrides to catch a glimpse of the brown, black and blue bird, which breeds in Asia and winters in Australasia. But instead of being treated to a wildlife spectacle they were left with a horror show when it flew into a wind turbine and was killed."www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2350267/amp/Rare-bird-white-throated-needletail-killed-wind-turbine-crowd-twitchers.html?__twitter_impression=trueNow if it had been killed by an oil spill the company would have been taken to court. But subsidy farmers get a pass.

Another illegal subsidy farm making no bones about that being the sole reason for what they are doing. Guest Post by Hendy wind farm protesters On 21/01/2019 By JacIn Colonialism, Corruption, Greens, Plaid Cymru, Welsh Government, Welsh Labour, Wind Turbines DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE Jac has written about the Hendy and Bryn Blaen wind farms fiasco previously in Corruption in the wind and updates (here and here). Since November last year Powys residents have been living an Alice in Wonderland adventure, though now we have perhaps moved on from Lewis Carroll to Franz Kafka. jacothenorth.net/blog/guest-post-by-hendy-wind-farm-protesters/

A good followup to the month-long partial government shutdown might be a sizeable hinterland survey to find out how many people actually missed any of the affected programs. Rank order by perceived importance and immediately start cutting from the bottom up. All displaced workers can be reassigned to border wall patrol after a successful completion of boot camp.

a sad story .... "Winter Is Wreaking Havoc On Electric Vehicles If there’s one thing electric vehicle owners are learning, it is that extremely cold temperatures are likely going to lead to frustration if they don’t take extra special care of their battery powered vehicles. Look at it as just another added benefit to "saving the world".
As we push through the cold that automakers are using as an excuse for poor sales this winter, customers of some companies – notably Tesla – are starting to realize that things are a little bit different with electric vehicles in the winter. Disgruntled owners of Model 3s have been widespread on social media and online forums, talking about numerous issues they’ve had with cold weather on their vehicles. People have complained about battery range draining and Model 3 door handles freezing up.
A new report by Fortune highlights several Tesla owners pointing out their issues: "My biggest concern is the cold weather drained my battery 20 to 25 miles overnight and an extra five to ten miles on my drive to work. I paid $60,000 to not drain my battery so quickly," said New Jersey based Model 3 owner Ronak Patel. www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-02-03/winter-wreaking-havoc-electric-vehicles

A follow on to the Zerohedge Story "Tesla, Jaguar and Nissan EVs lose range in freezing temps as polar vortex leaves electric car owners out in the cold The lithium-ion batteries used in most of today's electric cars are most efficient at around the same temperature as humans, about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. How much slower the battery charges "depends on several factors." Batteries can also overheat, potentially damaging their chemistry and shortening their life.
Here's a seemingly simple math question: what is 206 minus 27? If you answered 156 you'd be right – at least if you were driving a Jaguar I-Pace from Detroit's Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to the suburb of Pleasant Ridge during the recent polar vortex."www.cnbc.com/2019/02/05/tesla-jaguar-and-nissan-evs-lose-power-in-freezing-temps-.html

www.wsj.com/articles/worlds-dumbest-energy-policy-11548807424?ns=prod/accounts-wsjDumb environmental policies are routine across Europe—see Emmanuel Macron’s riot-inducing fuel tax in France—but even by that standard Germany’s new plan to abandon coal is notable. Having wasted uncountable billions of euros on renewables and inflicted some of Europe’s highest energy prices on German households and businesses, now Berlin is promising to kill the one reliable power source Germany has left. That plan comes via a blue-ribbon commission that recommended over the weekend that Germany phase out coal-fired power generation by 2038. Coal currently accounts for 40% of Germany’s electricity, by far the highest proportion in northern Europe. To the extent this is creating an environmental crisis, it’s a result of more than a decade of bad green policy choices.
