[Snip] I am old enough to have been in the midst of the US civil disobedience movement of the 60's. [Snip] Good to see that you can still wheel yourself over to the keyboard .... And when the movement got started I was going to school parttime on the GI Bill so that made me the old man in my class. Instead of the college class of 71 I should have been the class of 65. We are talking American Graffiti here.

You're so pure and high-minded Kiwistonewall.Presumably, lying about "scientific whale research" so you can tuck into delicious whale blubber is OK Who ever said motivation for doing research was a qualifier for bona fide research? Is enjoying diving on a tropical reef in Paradise a disqualifier for bonafide research on corals? Fish researchers very often eat the flesh after extracting the samples they need for research. You are so pure and high-minded Steve. I personally think we should leave the whales alone but I am not so presumptive to think my moral attitudes should be forced on other cultures. I'm pointing out the double-standards of objecting to Greenpeace lies while accepting the whalers' lies. Only in an ideal world are there no battles between differing moral standards. That does not justify any action. But the guy is only alleged to have trespassed on a boat and to have thrown a noxious but otherwise relatively harmless substance (in a report by a prochoice group about 100 attacks with this substance on abortion clinics, there is no reference to injuries being caused, or threat of injury). On the other hand, after the collision between boats obviously seriously damaged the Greenpeace boat, the whalers continued to attack the boat with high-powered hoses. So I think this thread title is rather silly, and reflects poorly on the OP's judgement.
