Hi Thermos!
It must surely ring alarm bells for some of the folk who remain undecided about the ongoing ice volume reduction in the Arctic if an average summer can produce a melt (extent or area) as great as the 'perfect storm ' of 07' did? And if this occured on two consecutive years as we must be looking at right now? Science was gobsmacked by the ferocity of the 07' melt as it appeared to be at least 30years in advance of the most dire predictions of the day. for such a melt to now be becoming 'common place' says enough for me! As for final numbers? I think 3.5 to 4.5 would be a realistic ball park figure for the numbers to end up at with 'export' of ice making the lowest figure available should the synoptics fall right for such.

Most votes (74%) in the poll suggest sea ice will exceed 4.5 by September Will we all be wrong? Looking at the AMSRE chart much depends on how that red line moves in July Will it stay above 2010 levels or drop down with the 2007 sea ice extent I am still favouring levels greater than 2010 We don't have long to wait

Hmm! AMSRE Red line dropping below 2007 levels Is this going to continue? This year is going to be lower than 2007. I have been predicting this for a long time. Cyclically, we should recover in the following years, however, the effects of black carbon in the ice will take some time to melt out. The only way to let the ice increase, is for China and India to have better pollution control. Either that or have Austrailia quit selling coal to the Chinese.

I've seen reports of environmentalism hitting china but that will take some time to manifest to the extremes we have it.

Some in Austrailia have their shorts in a bind concerning co2. IF they really wanted to do something, they would stop exporting coal. Funny how that isn't one of their solutions.

LOL I used to say the same thing about smoking, if it is really that bad for you make it illegal. The government wants that tax revenue.

Before getting too excited, AMSR-E has had "issues" in the past. Let's just leave it at that.
Graywolf, have you looked at the Cryosat results yet? Looks like it is in need of some adjustments.

I have to admit it grows tiresome to read your sophmoric and gloaty little posts. You sound like a nerd who managed to get a cell phone photo of the football star with his pants down and is tweeting it to his pimply little friends. Sig and I have both predicted 3.5 this summer, and we're not taking victory laps around the message board. I think neither of us see the doom you predict, and we certainly wouldn't be gleeful if we did. Since you are still posting, I assume you haven't permanently parked your car and pulled the main on your electrical in order to do your part to "save the planet." Until you do (at which time you will cease to annoy me), why don't you try to be a little more adult with your posts? Sorry for the rant, folks. I know I'm not one of the regulars here and so am probably out of line, but this guy's gloating really chafes.
