tribixler, it was a daily record not an all time record. Daily low and high happen all the time someplace on this earth. But we have all ready hashed that out..

Yes, glennkoks, but...
A freezing record on a anthropologically warming and melting continent, as Steig warned?

Good thing you were here to set the record straight. Why indeed the daily record of -100.8F seems of no chilling significance in this ever warming world.

I don't know many who agree with the theory of AGW who would be foolish enough to claim that there would no longer be cold events even in a warming world.

I don't know many who agree with the theory of AGW who would be foolish enough to claim that there would no longer be cold events even in a warming world. It seems you are missing the point? If it had been a "record" high, it would be a special report on all the networks including Scientific American etc., Gavin Schmidt would claim it is affirmation of AGW in realtime, and of course Joe Romm would say denialists are responsible because they are blocking Progress on climate change. So, I wonder if this will make it to CBS/NBC/ABC et al. www.theregister.co.uk/2012/06/25/antarctic_ice_not_melting/Kind of funny how there was never an update on Hansen, Trenberth and Gore's trip to Antarctica earlier this year. No doubt the Democrats in Congress will use this empirical data to calm the fears of Americans ;D After Climategate and now NAS jumping the shark on sea level, how can anyone believe one thing these climate "scientists" say? And some people wonder why many of us, the deniers, are so cynical. It is because we've been hearing the droning ignorance from the so-called experts most of your lives and are quite tired of the drama. The latest ad nauseum BS "science" wattsupwiththat.com/2012/06/24/another-stephan-rahmstorf-sea-level-scare/wattsupwiththat.com/2012/06/23/the-national-academy-of-sciences-loses-the-plot/This is science?

Magellan, anyone trying to substantiate or repudiate AGW or the lack there of from a record high or low anywhere in the world needs to be ignored. A warming or cooling world will still have extreme weather events.

A warming or cooling world will still have extreme weather events. I read PG's blog regularly. He is not claiming anything about the Antarctic temperature other than reporting it when it won't be by the major information outlets. You are right however, therefore about 97% of climate scientists should be ignored. ;D

It looks like the weak El Nino we have been enjoying, may have come to an end. The SOI is showing every sign of going positive again. www.longpaddock.qld.gov.au/seasonalclimateoutlook/southernoscillationindex/index.phpDespite the above, we have still had very wet and cold weather in Victoria in recent weeks. More generally, it also means that the slightly above worldwide temperatures we have seen are likely coming to an end.

What happened to the permanent drought in Australia the climastrologists told us was in effect just a few ago?

We have a desalination plant costing $6 billion just about to come on line.
Meanwhile our reservoirs happily fill up on natural rainfall.
Our Met Office and CSIRO provided some seriously bad advice, and clearly had no knowledge of the PDO, a natural 30 year cycle.

Yes magellan its a joke, we have had record rainfall since the start of 2010.
Since then, the permanent drought speeches and quotes are now non existent.
They have one theory destroyed, and move onto another one.
Our very own head of the BOM told Phil Jones that the Murray Darling basin was evidence of rampant climate change in 2007 when it was almost empty.
Now its full, or almost full and we have widespread floods and cooler than average tempsfor the last 2 years he is backtracking at a million miles an hour.
Thats how these clowns work, all agenda driven.
