It was a new house built to replace the [allegedly] bush fire proof house he previously owned. He was extremely lucky to survive those fires. Several hundred other people did not.
The flames came in horizontally across 50 metres of clearing and melted out the aluminium frames of the allegedly fire-proof windows.

Someone saw him coming he's probably the proud owner of some sea front property just outside Alice Springs.

As there hasn't been any climate change - how can it get worse?

"The whole enterprise of estimating extinction risk due to climate change is underpinned by a static and fragile view of nature. The assumptions underlying these analyses can be tested (and are false), but the “extinction risk” industry has no interest in examining them. Combining the choice of high-end warming scenarios with fragile models of species responses to warming leads to alarming claims like 50% of all species are endangered by climate change. These claims have no basis in reality. Species are at far more risk from other human activities, such as subsistence hunting" Climate Change and the Biodiversity Crisis-So we are destroying rain-forest in South America, Africa and Asia... -Using oceans for hiding our trash and dangerous waste products and overexploiting fishing areas while most of this frontier is yet unexplored... -Increasing hunting impact on wildlife in Africa and others due to an increasing population and poverty figures... -Running short of fresh water ressources due also to population increases and food-supplies growing needs... -Billions living under poverty... BUT yet we should only worry about climate change to come??? We are leading first human-driven mass extinction in Earth´s history, regardless what global mean temps trend say... This overwhelming contradiction is what I most hate about Climate Change Policies and discussion, which I find being neither green nor social...

BUT yet we should only worry about climate change to come??? We are leading first human-driven mass extinction in Earth´s history, regardless what global mean temps trend say... This overwhelming contradiction is what I most hate about Climate Change Policies and discussion, which I find being neither green nor social... Karlox, the phrase is Cui Bono. You should not believe someone who is relying on a 'scare' story to make money or obtain power. I think what we are witnessing is the death throws of the age of enlightenment. No longer do people logically build hypotheses and test them and when they are falsified abandon them. Instead they build arguments and demonstrations, not validations - carefully hiding any potential falsification even if it means defunding or attacking other scientists. The marketing industry steps in very early in the process if it appears there is any money to be made, the politicians step in if it appears any power over the population may accrue from a scary research output. If both marketing and politicians both see advantage in a hypothesis then falsifying the hypothesis ceases to be acceptable. Unfortunately, I think that this is due to the unbalanced nature of the tenure system. The tenure system for academics removes 'the stick' of being sacked for your ideas or research; it does not remove 'the carrot' of wealth, promotion and fame based on your research. So we see people called 'the rock stars' of research - do you think for a moment that they will be happy to have a junior researcher find the falsification to their 'Nobel winning idea' or the research idea that got them the huge government grant and a laboratory named after them? So now we have total distortion of science - academics that cannot be sacked for getting things totally wrong but as long as they can keep up the smoke and mirrors can achieve academic stardom. All carrot and no stick. The marketing industry and politicians are using these people ruthlessly, and have put a new stick in place - we will return you to your lonely little research garret with no funding unless you continue to support what we want. Science should not have been allowed out of that garret in the first place. So we are now seeing AGW being really threatened by the weather. From Joe Bastardi (a working forecaster) we get warnings of a really cold March in the US and concern for grow time in 2014. But this comes just as the politicians are on what they think is the home run of taking power (literally) using global warming 'climate change' as the 'greatest threat to mankind'. The politicians are now running around to all their tame scientists offering funding ONLY if the results support their 'greatest threat' meme. We then see the unedifying spectacle of supposed scientists telling us that its cold due to warming effect of CO2, of chief meteorologists saying that water shortages and drought can be expected to be 'the norm' from now on due to climate change - then when there are flooding rains and livelihoods destroyed the same chief meteorologist says without any guilt - flooding rains are what we should expect from now on due to climate change (and both Flannery and Slingo have done this - one at each end of the world). This seamless volte face can only be carried out when science is dead - and I believe in all areas where money or fame can be made from science it is dead or dying.

But this pro-anti AGW discussion keeps us away for real concerns and issues that should focus our priorities. Mankind and our social evolution to the present point of a global-trade system and global inter-dependance should bring a Common Shared Goal and compromises regarding Oceans, Rain forest and supply of basic needs and means of life for the poorest of this world. Half degree up or down just doesn´t matter if you are starving anyhow. Rain forest destruction does affect mankind present and future in many ways... besides enhaced local weather shifts due to de-forestation... I feel outraged when I learn how mining and oil-gas production in africa is performed by countries and companies getting greatest benefits while keeping natives and populations under poverty... That´s NOT FREE-Trade to my knowledge, not FAIR free trade for sure.
