[ Snip ] They are worthless in the cold. The range drops to approx 35 miles, which won't round trip to much of anywhere here. Thanks Sig. I've crossed the Leaf off my list of possible purchases for a trip to Alice Springs and Darwin.

How are they with chains and snow drifts? Don;t know anything about the Leaf, but I think our old Prius would have high-centered on a very small dog. They are worthless in the cold. The range drops to approx 35 miles, which won't round trip to much of anywhere here. The problem is being stuck in an unexpected hold up and the battery(ies) run down. You cannot get a spare gallon of elctricity from a passing samaritan, nor can you walk to the nearest gas station for more fuel. You are stuck and need to be towed. If the batteries are really depleted and cold, it is probable that you will need to replace the entire battery pack. Electric vehicles are for posers and golf carts; they are not a realistic option when the weather is bad. Not only that but they are remotely polluting vehicles - suits California to a tee.

Was looking at the Chevy Bolt couple days ago, fortunately don't have the cold to contend with. www.chevrolet.com/bolt-ev-electric-vehicle-2one of the greenest cars out there .. till you factor in how they make it and how they will dispose of it

Yep I remember but that was only a couple inches for a couple days, not even, and it's nothing like what Sig deals with is what I meant. Next year I've heard the PNW is going to be warmer with an El Nino and not global cooling. Are you still believing those forecasters? Same ones that predicted the continuation of the California drought? We need a new wager on what type of winter Code's going to have. Lets say 3 out of the next 5 years?

There never was investment in 'alternative energy' there was only subsidy farming. Guaranteed subsidies larger than investment returns available in any other sector. Then as the article says: "Then in and around 2011 many governments abandoned renewables subsidies in favor of capacity auctions, and growth in global clean energy investment ceased. " Quelle surprise!! Electricity generation was only a byproduct of subsidy farming now there are no subsidies expect the subsidy farmers to depart. They will do this by declaring bankruptcy - thus avoiding any expensive 'clean up' of dead subsidy farm markers (wind mobiles and reflective panels). The dead subsidy farms will remain as monuments to the gullibility of politicians.
