X-ray and gamma radiation, for example, is quickly absorbed within a few hundred meters of the source.
Lucky for us, else life could not have evolved with all that high energy junk radiated by the Sun and Cosmos.
Fortunately, the risk is extremely low, unless you happen to be in an aircraft flying through a thunderstorm where these TGF's are spawned. Really nothing to worry about, even if you're a frequent air traveler, because pilots tend to avoid these places.
