yeah, it's not how much you make, it's how much you spend that counts. Just as the federal government.

Politicians wishing to control the military will ensure that the structure of the military pits each arm of the military against the others for funding and manpower. This is exacerbated by weeding out real unbiased senior military officers and replacing them with political placemen who are 'told which side their bread is buttered' and thrown under the bus if they go against the Administration. There has been such a weeding out in the last 6 years. It will take a very long time for the US Military to recover from this Administration.

The Officials should be asked if it would be OK to hold a University Prayer Meeting. When they say it would not be allowed wave The Constitution at then and say is this why? I have always found it strange that those who are most fervently against The Constitution are so keen to 'Take The Fifth' and apparently suffer no cognitive dissonance.

In Oz, we have a Federal law that prohibits upsetting or offending others.
Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.
Really.

magellan,
Does the Republican party have anything besides fear to run on? Like an actual platform? A plan for the future?

Glenn: From what I can see they have more of a plan for the future than democrats. Sigurdur, Neither party is serious about addressing the most serious threat to our continued prosperity, our debt. The last two administrations have been equally disastrous. One spent us into oblivion on endless wars the other on social programs and hand outs. The window to clean our economic house is closing. We simply can't be the worlds police force and in a constant state of war. Nor can we give handouts to citizens in form of endless unemployment benefits, free student "loans" and welfare.

I concur and think we are past the point of no return.

Guys, Theoretical question. If we didn't address our debt what would you address Several big issues and they tie into our debt. Not necessarily in order: * Social Security. We have to reform before the bulk of the baby boomers retire. Key word is reform not "eliminate". It needs to revert back to a minimal safety net and not a retirement plan for the masses. * Military Industrial Complex. It's out of hand and we now have more and more money from defense contractors pouring in. Our threats have changed since the Cold War ended yet we continually find ourselves in constant unending wars at a huge cost to the taxpayer.
