It is being cut. Read the latest Pentagon budget. Equipment gets old and must be maintained and/or replaced. If you want a modern military, it is expensive.

The VA expenditures have been rising rapidly, amounting to about $170 Billion IIRC. I did make an error earlier by stating the VA is giving better care. I should have simply said the costs are increasing. After the experience I've had with my parents and the VA, it is government run healthcare at it's finest......horrible.

I agree we are in for bad times in the next year. Some say it will be worse than 2008. What many don't realize is the stock market has been artificially propped up by the Feds. I'd bet the actual stock value is probably half if not more.

Really Glennkoks, when Obama said people could keep their healthcare plan if they like it and had no intention of creating a single payer system, did you believe him? That wasn't a typical politician white lie. The whole reason for Obamacare is a total takeover of the medical system (among other neat stuff nobody read) by government. It's not hard to figure out how it will transpire.

sigurdur, The one pre-requisite for any return to fiscal sanity is to freeze spending at current levels. There is plenty of room to give and take on how, when and what to cut. But the first step has to be a freeze. Cutting the military or entitlements while still allowing our elected officials to outspend the cuts is inexcusable.

I personally don't like the 0bama "Affordable Care Act" (a misnomer if I ever saw one). I don't like what's in it (huge taxes) and I don't like that I don't know what's in it either because 'it's too big to read.'
