Ok...here is the story.
I live in a rural area and since the switch to HDTV, I get two stations most of the time.
Rather than go cable, I have decided to put up a new antenna. I had an old channel master that got reception up to 150 miles with a booster. The dog ate the cable, and since I didn't watch much tv I didn't care.
Now however, when storms etc approach, the digital signal gets lost so I might as well bite the bullet and go for the best again.
I live near enough to Canada that I should also get at least 3 stations from there.
Anyone have any experience or knowledge of what the best store bought antenna would be?
I am really rusty on gain etc.
Thanks for any replies.

OK.....after hours I finally figured out what I have on top of my tower. It is an old Channel Masster 3610 antenna....so I am in LUCK.......an excellent antenna.
What I do need help with now is.......where do you find a reliable rotor? After looking at reviews......seems the newer tv antenna rotors are junk.
Any ideas?

Hi code: No, the antenna is still up there. Haven't taken the time to fix it yet, but want to do it this fall before freeze up. Would be nice to get the free TV that is still broadcasting, as one channel is kinda ole.

Thanks code. I will look into the links.
I have a 50' tower which overcomes a lot of the curvature item. And I live where it is flat, so nothing to interfere with the signal.
Biggest thing is the quality of the rotor. It just isn't that easy to lay that tower on its side to do maintenance on it. Might be able to climb it on a reallllllly still day, but after I fell off a 20' roof, I get a bit shaky when up in the air too far.
Used to pull in channels 180+ miles away with it. Hope to get 160 miles....then should have canadian again as well as multiple US channels.
I don't like the idea of "monthly" payments. Doesn't take long to pay for a setup.

Don't they have any free channels on Sat in the USA? In the UK there are hundreds.

Birder: Don't have a sat dish, and as far as I know, the signals to the US are encrypted.
And with snow etc, sat dishes are very trouble prone.
so.....going to stick with a good antenna.....and hopefully de wife will be happy.

Sigurdur: Why not just use your internet for television? Since I know you can get that you can get virtually all of your channels, local and specialty, with a laptop.

It is looking like Channel Master may be coming back to life. In the old days, nearly everyone in my area had a Channel Master antenna as they withstood the elements the best, and had good reception.
Thank you code!

Hi Kevin (VE3EN) & folks! I have been following the solarcycle24.com boards almost since its inception back in 2006. I remember when it was possibly going to close due to needed funding. Of course I have contributed to its survival... anyway... Some time ago, proboards was the way to sign in and I have not been able to actually sign in for years. I have been more of an observer/reader, but now you can't download material if you aren't signed in. Can someone help me please figure this out? My profile approval has been hanging in there for weeks, if not months. Thanks for your help. PS my original username is neutrino... now it tells me that the name is taken, so I am using neutrino007. Well, let see what happens.
