"NASA Discovers Mantle Plume Almost as Hot as Yellowstone Supervolcano That's Melting Antarctica From Below
A mantle plume producing almost as much heat as Yellowstone supervolcano appears to be melting part of West Antarctica from beneath. Researchers at NASA have discovered a huge upwelling of hot rock under Marie Byrd Land, which lies between the Ross Ice Shelf and the Ross Sea, is creating vast lakes and rivers under the ice sheet. The presence of a huge mantle plume could explain why the region is so unstable today, and why it collapsed so quickly at the end of the last Ice Age, 11,000 years ago."www.newsweek.com/antarctica-melting-below-mantle-plume-almost-hot-yellowstone-supervolcano-705086?amp=1But they didn't discover it did they....didnt some young upstart do a paper not so long ago??

Does this mean it's possible that CO 2 is not causing the disintegration of the Antarctic ice sheet?

Does this mean it's possible that CO 2 is not causing the disintegration of the Antarctic ice sheet? The clue was that it was being melted from below. CO2 instigated infrared or even warmer air will only cool the sea surface by increasing evaporative cooling. There is no mechanism for CO2 to warm water a depth.

Sorry Sig. That was TOO good. Long-time CA readers will be aware of my long-standing interest in Antarctic ice core proxies, in particular, the highly resolved Law Dome d18O series. One of my first appearances in Climategate emails was a request for Law Dome data to Tas van Ommen in Australia, who immediately notified Phil Jones in Sauron’s Tower of this disturbance in the equilibrium of Middleearth. Jones promptly consulted the fiercest of his orcs, who urged that the data be withheld as follows: ” HI Phil, Personally, I wouldn’t send him [McIntyre] anything. I have no idea what he’s up to, but you can be sure it falls into the “no good” category.” I’ve discussed incidents involving Law Dome data on several occasions in the past. This is what the data looked like as of 2004: elevated values in the early first millennium, declining up to and including the 20th century.

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0277379117306340Sea levels at the end of this century are projected to be 0.26–0.98 m higher than today. The upper end of this range, and even higher estimates, cannot be ruled out because of major uncertainties in the dynamic response of polar ice sheets to a warming climate. Here, we propose an ecological genetics approach that can provide insight into the past stability and configuration of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS). We propose independent testing of the hypothesis that a trans-Antarctic seaway occurred at the last interglacial. Examination of the genomic signatures of bottom-dwelling marine species using the latest methods can

“Even Rob and Dave had a huge range of predictions for that very high scenario – anything from 30 cm sea level fall to nearly two metres rise – and they originally described their model as ‘speculative’. So it’s not justified to use such strong, certain phrases as ‘the destruction would be unstoppable’.” Hard to take seriously but I’m sure it is a great gig for Rob and Dave and lots of eyeballs for The Guardian.

Actually, this was a somewhat rational piece. It was written in rebuttal to Eric at Grist, who wrote the end is near.

We have built an excellent data base of published papers. Sometimes I have to search threads, but I usually find what I am looking for. I have been blocked by Dr. Hayho, Dr. Myrhe and others. Amazing how published literature that they don't like upsets them.
