A Test of the Anthropogenic Sea Level Rise HypothesisAbstractDetrended correlation analysis of a global sea level reconstruction 1807-2010 does not show that changes in the rate of sea level rise are related to the rate of fossil fuel emissions at any of the nine time scales tried. The result is checked against the measured data from sixteen locations in the Pacific and Atlantic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. No evidence could be found that observed changes in the rate of sea level rise are unnatural phenomena that can be attributed to fossil fuel emissions. These results are inconsistent with the proposition that the rate of sea level rise can be moderated by reducing emissions. It is noted that correlation is a necessary but not sufficient condition for a causal relationship between emissions and acceleration of sea level rise. Yet the meme will never die as long as the snake oil salesman, political class, Hollywood, educators (programmers) and MSM keep pushing it (particularly when a “Storm of the Century” arrives at high tide to a community built at sea level!

To peturb science should gain a mandatory period of time behind cold brick walls

After reading this and the preceding installments, I felt like I had a good grasp of the study of sea level as it relates to the hype of CAGW. Then on the “crawl” for NYC Fox affiliate this morning I read: “New study confirms accelerated sea level rise due to global warming”. It seems there are no facts anymore...everything is fluid and subject to polarized argument. Very distressing.

Average mean global temperature is selected despite the fact nobody ever experiences it over record heat (which for at least the US is declining). Record cold not sure which way its going but its probably increasing which is totally unimpressive or they would be walking it out as part of the dialogue on extremes. Global sea level rise acceleration over 2 years is now something to be alarmed about despite it happening repeatedly in the past, coupled with 2 year events of deceleration. There is not a single area in climate science where this goes untouched. Just listen to the dialogue on any other political issue. Fortunately approximately one third of the nation has a head on its shoulders. God forbid if ever the stooges of the extreme right and extreme left start agreeing with one another.

My thoughts this morning were that all of this is simply a political battle with victory determined by votes. That’s too simple though because of the religious component. It’s more of a jihad.

The error range of the satellite readings is large enough to claim no rise, some rise, a huge fast rise etc. All the claims are within statistical variables.

How about this for a "rapid cool" process.
1 Strong anticyclone established over Europe in late winter.
2 Cyclones spin into Arctic via Barents Sea. Some cycle directly over Iceland/Greenland.
3 Air propelled into Arctic cools intensively via radiation to space, Arctic appears warmer than normal. Atlantic cools rapidly through intensive evaporation from surface. Historically quiet sun leads to less input heat, and smaller "capture" profile as atmosphere contracts.
4 Heat of evaporation not "returned" to sea because significant portion of evaporated moisture falls as snow over ice sheets in Greenland and Iceland. Heat of condensation radiates to space. Ice sheets do not melt much in summer.
5 Sea levels start to fall, ice sheets thicken, leading to growing snowfall. Earth's albedo increases, leading to more solar reflection.
6 Earth cools rapidly, LIA or worse starts.
Sounds just like now, at stage 3.
