Meanwhile, this morning in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, news reports have us at 2.4C, just above the "all-time" July record low of 2.3C, recorded in 1898. This report says 2.6C .... Brisbane Courier Mail

Summertime comes and goes on the Northern Plains of the USA and Canada. The next few days will be a summer goes position.
Then, back to normal temps.
The thing to watch is, if an event such as this is repeated in later Aug or early Sept, those lows will be sub zero F. And THAT is not something one wants to think about for any length of time.

Joe Bastardi is forecasting another 'polar vortex' event at the end of the month. It's starting to get to be a pattern Although anyone that calls this a vortex doesn't know the meaning of the word. There's more of a vortes over the North Atlantic than there is around the pole. and over Antarctica the jet streams seem to be out to almost the equator a rather threatening aspect - although it may be its always like that just we can see it easier now. But it would explain Ratty's cold temperatures and the bad weather in South America.
