Wow.... they mentioned it. Is top down solar modulation finally going to get traction?: "But the study, published in the International Journal Of Climatology, states that it was extreme unlikely the clustering of extreme conditions had happened by chance. The trend could be due to random fluctuations in the climate system but could equally be due to factors including changing pressure and weather systems over the Arctic, especially Greenland, and changes in energy coming from the sun."

Its a very good question. Franklin got trapped Northwest of King William Island. Very few boats have gotten through that area since the passage got reopened in 2006 and none in the last 3 years or so. At the time of Franklin's expedition King William Island was known as King William Land as it was believed to be a peninsula, not an island so Franklin did not know what is the most common route through the lower passage by going around King William Island on the southside. This statement proves Gizmodo has morons for authors: "Ships never made it through the Northwest Passage for hundreds of years because, well, it did not exist. It was ice. Not so anymore thanks to climate change. In 2008, the first commercial vessel sailed through the Northwest Passage, and now there's even talk of luxury cruises." Which "hundreds of years" do you think Sarah is talking about? Is it before any ships tried to get through? Or is when ships were getting through?

Amazing how the NE Passage was used by Germany in WWII.

Wow.... they mentioned it. Is top down solar modulation finally going to get traction?: "But the study, published in the International Journal Of Climatology, states that it was extreme unlikely the clustering of extreme conditions had happened by chance. The trend could be due to random fluctuations in the climate system but could equally be due to factors including changing pressure and weather systems over the Arctic, especially Greenland, and changes in energy coming from the sun." Well, the condition and activity of the Sun as it soon will begin a grand minimum phase according to my Astromet calculations is the prime reason for my forecast for global cooling. I have been warning about global cooling for over 10 years and it is now closer with the advent of December 2017. In the meantime, the trending to global cooling can be seen in the growing arctic and antarctic ice extents, as well as the earlier-than-normal cooler weather being experienced. For instance, this winter will be early according to my forecast, but it will also leave early, leading into an earlier-than-normal spring and a warmer and extended summer in 2015 - a very hot year in my forecast that will be the last gasp of solar-forced global warming before the onset of the abrupt new climate state of global cooling. We are already seeing the earlier-than-normal frost and freezes I've been talking about and there has been significant snowfall in Calgary, Canada, and now in the Great Plains states of America. Today, September 11, 2014, saw a winter storm in the Black Hills of South Dakota which has dumped up to 8 inches of snow in the area, while Rapid City received its earliest snowfall in more than 120 years. Downtown Custer reported 8 inches of snow, while 7 inches was reported at Mount Rushmore. Other snowfall totals: 6 inches five miles south of Hill City; 4,5 inches in HIll City and 4 inches in Sundance, Wyoming. Snow already has fallen on Colorado's high country and closed some trail roads in Rocky Mountain National Park on Tuesday night. What we are seeing is the coming of an early winter (which is my forecast for this particular winter season) as well as the trending to global cooling as the world continues to get colder and wetter in some regions and colder and drier (with drought) in other regions.

New record lows set in the Western US last night. And not just barely...........big time 10's of degrees out of trend lows.

It looks like the same pattern we had last year is going to be in effect this year. One "polar vortex" after another...

stuck in that mode, still!!
The UK may be ok for the worlds mobile population, but then again if you are mobile go to the tropics!

I don't know about moving tropics I think its North near Ratty and South near me - driving through Maryland countryside early yesterday there were leaves blowing about. The trees think its fall (aka autumn). Somewhat earlier than normal.
