That 'nice cool water' is up to 4c warmer than it used to be at the melt fronts of most of the ice shelfs there courtesy of those 'nice winds'? Got it absolutely upside down Graywolf. . . .as usual. You are at the wrong end of the world!

Water at the edge of the Antarctic Ice Sheet at about +2degC is going to cool REALLY fast.
If this is a large spurt of water from elsewhere [which seems likely as it apparently melted 500,000 Sq kms of ice rather quickly], this a quite major planetary cooling mechanism.
However, icefisher might be right and the ice simply lost itself graphically in the Antarctic Ocean.

Hmmmm, where is the 4C water at the ice edge?

Hmmmm, where is the 4C water at the ice edge? Forget the observations (that's so last century), in today's world it's all about the output from the models and if they say it's 4C warmer it must be so...

weather.unisys.com/surface/sst_anom_new.gif it does look like a lot of cold water has been dumped into the ocean .. the only place ithe heat can be coming from would be the east coast of s/a the way the currants run there the cold off west Africa could be pushing it down ..

Sunshinehours blogs: Sea Ice Update July 14 2014 – Antarctica Sensor/Processing ErrorUPDATE: A new set of data has been published. But there is still a value in the missing column. 0.01597 million sq km. The updated graph: I have been a bit worried about the deep deep dive in Antarctica Sea Ice Extent. It appears to be a processing or sensor error. As of today the NSIDC data confirms it. The table of data on the right of this image is the last 5 days. The data does have a value in the Missing column – 1.97873 million sq km. The Missing column is usually empty. Sometimes it takes NSIDC a couple of days to sort things out. No doubt, an amended version of the graph will be available soon.

No doubt, an amended version of the graph will be available soon. Don't hold your breath. Alarmists absolutely cannot have a new all time high ice record set in the midst of their overheated rhetoric. That will not do... Can you imagine someone like Greywolf or Steve trying to wrap their minds around a new all time record while clinging to their beliefs? I'm not saying their heads would explode, because alarmists are nothing if not creative in the face of reality that diverges from their end of the world fantasy. But I always wonder what people like that feel like when beliefs and realty are incompatible. Of course I also wonder if Alarmist truly believe in CAGW or if their position is the result of greed and a lack of ethics.

Of course I also wonder if Alarmist truly believe in CAGW or if their position is the result of greed and a lack of ethics. Well that list might ought to be a bit longer. Like ego and excessive rationalization. Also, its probably time to stop blaming models. We get so much "the models say so". The models are incapable of saying anything. . . .never have, never will. Going back to the argument of freewill versus determinism, very clearly models are deterministic and entirely enslaved to beginning conditions, assumptions and hardwired logic. When a model is saying something its in reality the author saying something. Its too easy to allow the models to say so with statistical certainty, its too easy to claim that a group of models can be relied upon to provide certainty percentages based upon assumptions that the models are representative of real climate controllers. It would be better to drop the idiom "model says" and get quotes directly from authors and for journalists to correctly interpret that a model author has no clue when he says "the model output resulted in. . . .". Its pretty scary when you think about it. Certain horror movies come to mind as some mad scientist attempts to create life and the monster runs amok ripping peoples heads off.

messed up again. I just wanted to say how much I admire Mr. Graywolf for continuing to post despite his dismal record of prediction. Within the last several months he has predicted a super El Nino, record arctic ice loss, and a 4 degree temperature change in Antarctic waters as the cause of the dip in southern sea ice. Appears he is dead wrong on all counts. As shown on these boards, the El Nino appears to be dying, wattsupwiththat.com/2014/07/14/the-201415-el-nino-part-13-more-mixed-signals/, arctic sea ice melt has slowed,http://arctic-roos.org/observations/satellite-data/sea-ice/ice-area-and-extent-in-arctic, and the Antarctic sea ice dip is a processing error. In the face of the continuous and repeated failure of the models and predictions of the AGW proponents, they manipulate data, ignore natural cycles, fill the media with unsubstantiated stories of doom and gloom, and move the goalposts. Who, I ask, are the deniers?
