There is not a lot of heat down in Florida or the GOMEX. Lots of manatees sheltering in the warm springs already. In theory we are still in hurricane season but temperatures are barely breaking 75F where 85F is normal and 94F is not uncommon. Won't affect the locals though as soon as Halloween comes they are in puffer jackets and wooly hats.

Joe Bastardi is getting quite irritated with people talking about the Polar Vortex. He believes that the cold dropping down into the USA is nothing to do with the Polar Vortex and is a commonly seen pattern.

Joe Bastardi is getting quite irritated with people talking about the Polar Vortex. He believes that the cold dropping down into the USA is nothing to do with the Polar Vortex and is a commonly seen pattern. But "Polar Vortex" sounds so much more scary and gets more use by the media. "Blue Norther" just does not sound as dangerous.

It is not unheard of but I thought this was an interesting forecast. Its currently 80 degrees in Wichita Falls, Texas. The forecast low tonight is 35. My math is week but that is a 45 degree drop in no time. Attachments:

We're off to another dry start here in sunny California. With Astromet's forecast for another dry year and a pretty persistent blocking ridge of High Pressure, I'm beginning to lose hope that I'll be able to water my lawn more than once per week for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, I notice that my home state of Colorado is off to an early start to winter: 18F and snowing in Colorado Springs this morning. I'm just a tad jealous.
