NOAA's land and water temperature anomaly map for October. Andrew has confirmed that Finland was warmer. Any differences to note from this map for Norway, Scotland, England and Ireland??? Can someone please tell me WHY the Norwegian Sea is so darn warm? Yes, I know it's an anomaly ,,, but how does a current traveling through a cold anomaly (N. Atlantic) of -0.5 to -1.0 C result in a warm anomaly of 1.0 to 1.5 C??? Geothermal? Something else? Someone must have a well-thought-out opinion on this. But look at the changes from September. The Pacific Northwest / Alaska and Western / Central Australia flipping back and forth. And cold is spreading in Western Europe, Central Russia and the south of South America.

None of the NOAA, NASA, NCDC etc or the Met Office, BOM or WMO are going to break ranks now. There could be ice forming in the Gulf of Mexico and they would still correct their color codes and claim it was hotter than normal. They have their orders that COP21 in Paris must succeed or they will be selling matches.

One can do with that kind of failure.

It can't be wet. That doesn't work with the models. Someone is dreaming again.
Code wasn't meant to ski this winter!

Exceptional floods here in UK...Once again, Cumbria had 10" of rain in 12 hrs...So, since 2007 we've had 3 'exceptional' flood events, mainly driven, from what I can see are strong Jet Stream conditions in Atlantic
Strong Jet Streams are caused by large temperature differences from north to south. Now we know those in the North most regions of Europe are exceptionally cold (eg Iceland). To be sure, we're mild only this far south.
Should be interesting!

In Finland on Friday we had the Highest december temp ever recorded of over 11C beating the 2006 record by about one degree. Mild weather continues.

Hebden bridge suffered two events in 2012 alone never mind the cumbrian/west country/midlands/NE floods over that period? Each event was blamed on '1 in 100' or 1 in 200yr events.... We have another 'atmospheric river lined up from Thurs onward so we'll see if that wiggles or, as it did here in 2012 or Carlise/Cockermouth over the weekend, keeps on coming in over one area ( one area , if confirmed, had 31.7cm which would be a new record for the UK!). I do not see this current 'Atlantic' spell ending any time soon either? With the strongest Nino yet measured giving global temps a tweak upward then the temp grad twixt pole and equator will be more marked this year ( Polar winter will still be cold without the Sun!!) meaning an active Atlantic for the months to come? Post 2009 floods Carlise/Cockermouth put in beefed up defenses said to be capable of withstanding a 1 in 200 year event..... that took 6 years to come around.....

I think your right regarding flood events GW, but if they happen frequently in non Nino years, it's hard to put it on that. There are large north south temp differences, this is the reason for the jetstream, Nino can only possibly account for half of this?
