I have two medium sized olive trees in my garden: every other year, I harvest several bucketfuls, which my daughter processes. I agree with the slave labour comment!
Central Northern Victoria, which is distinctly hotter and dryer than Melbourne, contains some enormous olive farms - biggest in the Southern Hemisphere?!!

If price of corn goes up so will the price of beef among others The price of beef is because of supply/demand issues. Takes years to turn that one around. The price of corn is so low, that right now it isn't a factor in the price of beef. Avian flu has affected poultry and egg prices. Only bargain left in meats is pork.

Don't you agree production costs are passed on to consumers? Yes, and no. If that were the case, you wouldn't be seeing the higher prices of beef today. 5 years ago, beef was so low priced that it forced many to stop raising etc. They couldn't pass along their production costs, so went broke. Economics is a fickle master. Those that believe production costs are passed to the consumer are the same who believe that you increase revenue by lowering taxes.

AgWeek must have been short of copy: Same could be said here in Oz most years. I'll make an entry in my calendar to check the outcomes later in the year.

AgWeek must have been short of copy: Same could be said here in Oz most years. I'll make an entry in my calendar to check the outcomes later in the year. Well, according to the AGW folks, Aussie weather has been tranquil and perfect for decades/centuries until you folks started worrying about being warm or cold. Or driving to get food etc. Then of course, everything has gone downhill since then. So, this talk of dryness HAS to be caused by all that CO2 you folks are emitting..........right?

I think they are hanging their hat on an "El Nino".
There is nearly always a drought somewhere in Oz.
Right now, most of Western, Eastern & SE Australia does not feel dry. Wet and cold [by our standards] is a better description.
