Winter wheat fell to new contract and 10-year lows on Monday amid ongoing pressure from ample world supplies. Corn dropped to a seven-year low despite better-than-expected export inspections and soybeans slipped to a one-month low.

Yep, the level of starvation worldwide should be at multi year lows! A lot of "smart" folks had told us we would all be starving abt now. Doesn't seem to be happening! no that will come in 7-10 yrs time when the food mountain has rotted and the fields are still frozen in may

[ Snip ] Vacuum pack a mountain of those soybeans in number 10 tins for the 'lean years'. Nah. Turn 'em into tofu. That way, you can eat it or use for vehicle tyres ("tires" for the colonials) later.

The plight of the American farmer has been a frequent topic for us over the past couple of months. A few weeks ago we pointed out how declining corn, wheat and soybean prices were leading to the first declines in farmland values in the Midwest since the 80s (see "Farmland Bubble Bursts As Ag Credit Conditions Crumble"). We also questioned whether California farmland was overvalued by $70 billion as almond prices have been cut in half over the past year and drought conditions threaten farming sustainability in many regions of the Central Valley (see "Is California Farmland Overvalued By $70 Billion?"). www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-08-30/usda-sees-2016-farm-income-crashing-farmer-leverage-spikes-34-year

I read the comments in this post related to the Amish. We have a large community of them about 20 miles north of us on the southern fringe of the great prairies. The are truely an amazingly productive people ... but their 1880s technology, which works for them, will not feed the world.

You beat me to this by minutes, Mr. Sig. I was just about to post the reference to this from Anthony at WUWT. Special note--the protein content of this wheat is supposedly low, because the summer weather was not hot enough and too wet. I thought this was the hottest summer evah! It seems our warmest friends can conjure up a dark cloud with which to hide any silver lining!

Yep. To get high protein the wheat must have be stressed. With the higher CO2 it is getting harder to stress the wheat. More aggressive roots

Down here on the US Gulf Coast we have flying cockroaches about that size. I think Mr. Glenn has them in H-Town as well. Would like to see a cage fight between one our roaches and that grasshopper! Speaking of cage fights, have Istarted one on the Antarctic thread? The In one corner, Graywolf and the collapse of the ice sheets! In the other, Mr. White and the next mini ice-age. Kind of like Keynes v Hayek! www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0nERTFo-Sk
