Thought I would take the time to make a post on how the yields in SE Minnesota are faring, being that back in February and March, Astromet forecasted the summer of 2015 to be of good yields with rare opportunities to double crop. In our area it will be one to go into the record books. We've seen oats yield like never before, for us anyways, 150-200 bushel per acre. Good for us is 100 bushel per acre. Dairy farmers in the area are talking of cutting their 5th cutting of alfalfa. In a good year only the aggressive guys get an occasional 4th cutting. Our area is approaching 30% of the bean crop out on 10-3-15. It's looking like a record yield. A little bit of corn harvested for grain with great yields and good quality. the dairy guys that have taken silage are planting cover crops, like rye grass and it's growing like crazy. The next 10 days the local forecast has no frost in sight but their was some light frost N - NE of the twin cities area the last couple of mornings. Thought I would post an article link that just came out in The Progressive Farmer magazine warning us that they see a 3 - 7 degree centigrade increase in average temperatures for the midwest in the next 20 years or so. If Astromet is half right, in his call for Global cooling, are these guys in for a shock. www.dtnprogressivefarmer.com/dtnag/common/link.do?symbolicName=/free/farmlife/news/template1&product=/ag/news/farmlife&vendorReference=0702DDCB&paneContentId=71107&paneParentId=70083&pagination_num=1 (hope this link works) It has several articles under the main topic of discussion of "Food Security".

Fly guy: I wouldn't count on that 3-7C increase in average temps.

Well if the world were to go to pot at least we'd all have the opportunity to kick back and take a mellow view on it. Man!

Unusual yield update. Just finished some second crop beans for a neighbor that had a first crop of late season snap peas that came off the 3rd or 4th of July and planted a .05 soybean on July 8th. I am going to say that they did slightly better than 40 bushel per acre of good quality beans. Nice clean sample, no green grapes in the tank. Haven't scaled the trucks yet but I believe that I am being conservative based on what the air gauges say on the trucks. Also would like to mention that our alfalfa is still growing, 6th crop is so tall that farmers fear they could have smothering if they don't do another cutting. Can't remember watching the trees go through a color change to winter dormancy without a fall freeze. Color has been spectacular for 2 weeks now.
