Well, thinking this morning of ways to cut costs. One thing for sure, it seems that electricity costs are going to rise. At least where I live.
Cooling is not a huge cost for me. Surprised eh? Heating IS a large cost.
In the spud houses, electricity is the preferred source of heat as it is stable, and does not suck out humidity. Spuds breath, and the loss of moisture in the spud is a loss of selling weight.
But my shop, and house both consume electricity for heat.
I have ample wood available. In fact, put a wood boiler in for my kids. They love it. Instead of $550.00 a month for heat, it is now chain saw gas and a bit of weekend work. A neighbor offered an ash shelter belt. (Hard wood with good to excellent btu).
They bought their boiler, I think I will just make my boiler. Self made, payback time potentially less than a year.
Anyone have experience in making a boiler? Or know of plans to make a boiler?

Thanks Code. My favorite machine ship uses that, or a very similar, furnace for heat. I don't generate enough used oil to keep one running for the whole winter. With synthetics now, oil changes are now 300 hrs verses the old 100 hrs. Hydraulic the same, instead of 500 hrs, now 2,000 hrs. Hence the idea for a wood fired hot water boiler. That way I can send heat to where ever I want it, need it. I want to make my own, but I also want to make one that is state of the art in regards to efficient burn etc.
