True Mr.Blust.. The Bali volcano last blew its top in '63, but ive not heard it referenced in a way Pinatabo is... Btw, the media is saying seismic activity is unprecedented....is there a competition out as to who can use this word in a week/month.... A saw a guy use this referring to rainfall in Sicily, I commented, literally never before?? His response was, well not never, but it was alot of rain....😝 Since more than 1700 people were killed in 63, I’m guessing the seismic activity wasn’t being monitored with an extensive array of sensors connected to a center with more computing power in a couple of laptops and smartphones than existed at IBM back then. Pinatabo is the only cooling anamoly I ever see on the graphs that assure us we are destroying the planet. Unprecedented worldwide propaganda campaign in crisis.

Living in the ring of fire is paradise until...🌋...something unprecedented (in your finite time there) happens.

Living in the ring of fire is paradise until...🌋...something unprecedented (in your finite time there) happens. And hurricane alley. Ask the Virgin Island retirees (and natives) whose retirement boats/houses disappeared. Paradise also comes loaded with bothersome insects. I specifically remember sand flies (no-see-ums). Late afternoon and they will consume you.

When that blows (and I hope and pray none of us or our loved ones live to see it happen) nobody’s going to be concerned about how much CO2 or cow farts are going into the atmosphere. One of us out on the fringe is going to have to take missouriboy in too!

On one of my trips to Yellowstone, a guide explained to us that an eruption at Yellowstone would not be a sudden and unexpected event. The ground, according to this fellow, constantly rises and falls in Yellowstone, and one example he gave of a place that is always watched is Yellowstone lake. He gave the example because it is measured in millimeters or inches/year, and although is is much faster than mountain growth (the nearby Grand Teton range grows at about the same rate as your fingernails - fast for mountains), it's not what would be expected leading up to an eruption. According to this fellow, the caldera would start rising more than an inch/day and would continue to accelerate for months to years before the actual eruption.
I am no expert on volcanoes, so all I'm doing is giving what I can remember of what this fellow who gets asked these questions every day gave to us.

I have read similar assessments in articles but I believe there are new theories/findings regarding the magma under Yellowstone that reveal how little we really know. The fact is “life is dangerous”, everything wants to kill us!

Nothing to worry about from the sound of the article.

I keep scanning the news, Bardabunga was great viewing as theres loads of data/graphs on line. You could watch each tremor occur live on a 3d map! This one seems a bit less covered sadly.

In the days of instantaneous mass media, any event (or possible event) unleashes the imaginations and emotions of every gossip in the world, who pound our ears and eyes with opinions of what has happened (or is going to happen) and whose fault it is ... the later being very popular. Protocol requires at least one "UN" word and it must be personalized. In the old days, the first indication of anything being wrong was often when the "four horsemen" rode into town. OK ... so they did have a couple of days warning with Vesuvius ... and the household Gods were not very helpful.
