This answers the age-old question of ... "How many scientists does it take to screw in a light bulb?" ... 5 to watch and 1 to call the priest. María José Blanco, IGN Canary Islands director, said the agency will start increasing the number of seismic stations starting October 10 and intensify geochemical measures. In addition, 5 scientists will be assigned to keep track of the earthquakes.

This is why the Cubre Vieja is interesting www.geo.arizona.edu/~andyf/LaPalma/doomsday.htmlOK imagine - you have 8 hours maximum to evacuate the entire eastern seaboard of the US to at least 20 miles inland - more in some places. Let's say the eruption happens at 4am local in the Canaries ~ 11pm Eastern time. So you need the entire population of that 20nm strip along the coast to mandatory evacuate and its nearly midnight.

TSUNAMIS AND TSUNAMI-LIKE WAVES OF THE EASTERN UNITED STATES Patricia A. Lockridge Lowell S. Whiteside James F. Lander National Geophysical Data Center "There is evidence that large tsunamis have been generated by these Canary Island landslides. For example, on the Bahamian Island of Eleuthera, boulders of coral limestone “as big as houses and weighing thousands of tons” have been deposited 20 m above sea-level and as much as 500 m inland. On the other end of the Bahamas archipelago are large sand wedges several kilometers long and up to 25 m high–probably also formed by large waves in the area. The estimated ages of these features in the Bahamas seem to match the collapse at El Gulfo on the island of El Hierro in the Canary Islands. (McGuire, 1999) Tsunamis capable of leaving such artifacts in the Bahamas would doubtless cause much devastation in the Caribbean and also along the East Coast of the United States"page 122 ftp.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazards/publications/ref0541_lockridge.pdf

Happening faster than they thought, eh? More research needed? Funds could be diverted from other areas of science.

While searching for the effect of Earth chasing the Sun's movements as it itself orbits the solar system barycenter I found this { www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0078323415000433 } which is interesting. (I think ) It seems to tie in ENSO to mass changes - Theo may be able to make more sense of what it is trying to do. But obviously if the Earth's velocity is altered the inertia and momentum of the oceans (often technically called 'slop') will be indicated by the upwelling we call ENSO and which climatologists blame solely on winds and Kelvin waves. Bulges in the oceans particularly the Pacific caused by a change in the Earth's velocity would also cause stresses on the edges of the tectonic plates and any in the 'stick' phase of 'slip-stick' may briefly have a 'slip' phase. As the Length of Day (LOD) metrics show, Earth does appear to be being disturbed in its orbit. This link was in a post in WUWT. It is not exactly what I expected from what has been published on tectonic plates and tectonic drift. However, I think it supports the concept of a thin skinned bubble of molten magma being stressed by inertial effects from changes in its orbital velocity. Each orbital state will act as a continual input to tectonic stress even the Moon causes tidal stress in the Earth's crust.
