so anyone want to make a guess at why nz is getting more than it's fair share of quakes ..over the normal 2-3 range .. we are taking hundreds over the last few days .. 3-7 .. anyone else think the shelf out to sea is collapsing ?

That was centered just a few miles from here. Fun! Lasted over a minute, seemed to start out with almost a "boom" sound. Quite strong. Too bad for those with damage though.

that's just the fracking .. Probably, but this one was deeper. It is really the wastewater disposal wells that are likely causing the quakes, not exactly the fracking.

All the fluid injection will do is bring forward the quakes the good news is that lots of small quakes are better than infrequent large ones

Queensland is largely a coal seam gas region. The fracing is largely confined to shallow wells and the coal has a plastic characteristic rather than deeper sandstone fault tension.
That article claims that QLD has only a 20 year history. Ratty does that mean they can't write and drink a lot?
