Trees are already turning and dropping leaves here in the U.K. Not quite that pretty yet though.

Middle of the middle lands, just north of Brum. Crab apple in the back garden is dropping fruit heavily, local trees are turning gold (not all, but enough to notice) I'll see if I can get a decent pic when I'm out tomorrow.

Middle Earth (Columbia, MO) August and first two weeks of September
August temperatures are closing out at 3.5 F BELOW the 1981-2010 daily normals. Daily forecasts by the Weather Channel are projected at 3.0 F BELOW these same daily normals for the first 14 days of September. We'll see what happens.

I looked at August for the Ft Worth area where I live. We've had 4 mornings in the 60's this August and the months average highs are running 3.3F below normal

Newer poster here, from SW Ontario Canada. Beginning about a month ago,I noticed many, unusually large flocks of Canada geese heading roughly toward the south as well as large flocks of other birds. I have never seen such early movement. Naturally I wondered if others have seen the same thing and whether or not there was any scientific reason for this and if any of you had any suspicions about a possible connection with the severity of this coming winter. I realize this is rather hokey and perhaps better suited to some sort of almanac but I would be interested in your thoughts.

I think Sig reported that from slightly South of The Great White North in the Dakotas. To be honest I trust that kind of observation a lot more than a graph of a 'global average temperature' from a climate 'scientist'. See notrickszone.com/#sthash.YBhjxen4.dpbs where all the fakery is highlighted repeatedly.

Howdy Oldguy, back in 2010 or so I heard on the radio a lady from Scotland who swore we were in for a bad winter because the mink were coming down from the mountains with their white winter coats on. She was right. I wish I knew how to find out their situation every year...

To say that is early is an understatement! I hope I don't see another flock for the next 4 weeks! They "normally" start showing up around end of September. Prime hunting is the 1st two weeks of October.

I saw a large flock in a field by my home this week that had 60+ geese grazing together.
