I have been following this forum for a couple of years but hesitated to join because I'm a bit intimidated by the level of work you guys put into your posts. Well I've decided to come out of the shadows. I am not a climatologist but I have worked in a technical field for the past 35 years and have a good understanding of the scientific method and how difficult it is for humans to adhere to it. I am very interested in the subjects covered here and will try to keep up!

Well I didn't know about the LIA, AMO, PDO, MWP, ENSO, UHI, Milankovitch Cycles, albedo and countless other subjects until I became curious about the subject of climate change which eventually led me to SolarHam which led me here! I don't know much and I certainly don't know what I don't know but I do know a bit about signal to noise and observation time vs cycle period. You guys speak my language more often than not and there's a good bit of humor to go with the discussion!

You guys speak my language more often than not and there's a good bit of humor to go with the discussion! Welcome into the light from the shadows. I found this board (well its predecessor known colloquially as 'the old board' ) by accident when casting around to find a group that seemed to be talking sense and discussing things in a less combative way. My search was started by finding a professor of 'climatology' claiming that water vapor was unimportant and merely a feedback to CO2 as it was only transient in the atmosphere... (my immediate thought was the blades of a propeller are only transiently present but you know about it if you walk through the propeller disk..) that professor was not at the time famous but he has come to be so - it was none other than Michael Mann I can still remember sitting in my apartement in Zaventum (just alongside Brussels airport) thinking that's not right. Then starting to look for information and groups that talked a little sense. This was before WattsUpWithThat, NoTrickszone, NotALotOfPeopleKnowThat etc. It has been a learning experience. So welcome again do keep adding to the board.

Everyone has knowledge to share, the more precise the better. Together we may actually make a difference at some point in time! Tell your friends to take a gander as well please.

That bolded statement sets you several heads above the crowd that's forever crying 'the end is nigh'. Actually, if they were to spell it 'nye', most of us might agree with them. That crowd seems to include a lot of supposed scientists who ought to know better. I've certainly learned a lot more about climate than I ever knew before I started hanging out here. God give us the strength to admit that we don't know what we don't know, and question the rest.

Thanks for the kind welcome all. Welcome from the resident rat too .... What is the origin of "blustnmtn" ?? The other guys (and gals?) have said it all; I know just enough to be dangerous in a conversation with people who don't know much ..... does that make sense? Sometimes, my avatar is this:

Thanks code and ratty. Blustnmtn stands for "blue-stone-mountain". I live on Long Island in New York but have a place in "upstate" NY in the Catskill Mountains. My place is on the side of a mountain that is all blue stone. BTW, winter is coming!

Thanks for the kind welcome all. Welcome blustnmtn! I am primarily a lurker but I love this place. It's very "homey" (that's a compliment!) and it's hard to find a nicer and more knowledgeable set of men and women on the planet to discuss the topics at hand. I can't keep up with the people here but I certainly do learn a lot. Good to see this site is attracting others.

Welcome, blustnmtn. I think we all learn something here, every day. At least, I do... even at my age.

PS: I did consider Stoned and discarded that idea .....

None of them are curious about the subjects tackled here. I am impressed with the breadth and depth of curiosity and discussion churning here. I also notice a considerable lack of rancor which is incredibly rare these days.
