I'm very concerned about the wheat crop in southwest Oklahoma. Temps here dropped to 24F for several hours Saturday morning, and remained below freezing for at least 6 to 7 hours, with a brisk wind. No news of damage yet. My wheat was almost in the boot, so significant damage is likely. I actually didn't know anybody still farmed wheat in Oklahoma. It's good to hear. I grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma (Cherokee blood). When I was growing up, every field was being farmed, and a large portion of that was wheat. It's not like that anymore. In fact, almost no fields there are farmed anymore.

Smaller parcels (40+ acres) that used to support families now gone back to brush and timber ... or just used for hay. They won't replace the Prairie Provinces of Canada and Northern Great Plains, but they could once again produce grain. Only problem is, no one knows how to farm any more.

More had better learn how to farm or we are all in BIG trouble Missouriboy. Meanwhile, more cold temperature records are being broken... www.accuweather.com/en/weather-blogs/weathermatrix/the-winter-that-wouldnt-end-cold-continues-sets-records/70004626

Plenty of coverage in my neck of the woods with the Canadian team competing in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Somehow, it seems worse when small communities are involved.

Wheat Prices 1264-1996 AD Wheat has been discussed here along with prices as possible indicators of climate effect. I found this web site containing many historical data sets on many topics. They are a lot short on documentation but the historical trend seems obvious ... and when you combine it with the historical growth in real income, the West has truely been blessed food-wise since 1850. Perhaps we could call it the Anti-Mann Reverse Hockey Stick. datamarket.com/data/list/?q=cat:ed4%20interval:year%20provider:tsdl

I think we just graduated to the tropical return channel. It's 89F right now. Winter to summer in 2 days. Then back to winter in 2 more.
