Here at the moment, you could get by with a tattoo of a bikini and still be hot. I phrased that badly ... sorry. Looks like the December "warmer" interlude will work out well for our little road trip to SW Florida from the 20th to 29th ... meaning no blizzards that I have to slip and slide through either going or coming. On Joe's (and others) forecasts I'll leave the 4-wheel drive truck at home and venture out in the wife's front-wheel drive VW wagon ... better gas mileage. Looking forward to some sun and heat. Stock up on vitamin D for the coming 3-4 month(?) deprivation season. Number 50 and Guinness in the the land of the newly wed and nearly dead. If you visit Florida, there will be no need to come see my part of the world; the Gold Coast owes (?) a lot to Floridians: Not my place ...

Never, never let a Floridian anywhere near a real estate deal.

With a bottle and a shotgun ... oops ... forgot you can't have those there. But the bottle is still legal right?

Nice pic of Gold Coast, Ratty.
Does Florida have the same sort of bull sharks that infest those narrow canals?! [That's why no-one swims in them].
More to the point, our premier newspaper The Australia had five letters in a row this morning critising CAGW to a greater or lesser extent.
Methinks, the worm is starting to turn.

We can still have a shotgun, rifle, pistol provided you are of good character, have a LOT of patience (paperwork), a legitimate reason for ownership and a very secure storage option that passes police inspection. I handed all mine in and was compensated. I hadn't been away shooting ferals or to the range for a long time.

Yes Florida has the same kind of bull sharks. The saying is that if you have been knee deep in the sea you have been within 15ft of a shark. Most are merely dogfish (which the UK sells as 'rock salmon' in fish and chips. But the bull sharks are known for taking bites out of surfboards.

Astro - Do you expect that NW Europe is going to be colder than N America during December - January of the upcoming winter? Or is it a late winter all over the N. Hemisphere? The answer is no, I expect Indian Summer conditions in October, November, December 2018, and January 2019 throughout most of Europe and North America (except at higher elevations) and a very late winter season not fully underway until early February 2019. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/met-office-forecast-liverpool-hotter-15256704Certainly not the case here in North western europe "norway".. Winter came early already in october with both snow and cold weather.

Anak Krakatoa just caused a terrible tsunami:
[[The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has been monitoring the situation and has issued a red warning to airline pilots operating in the region that an ash cloud is spreading south-west from the volcano to an altitude of 55,000 feet.]]
From a climate point of view, if 55,000 ft is correct, that injects a lot of dust and sulphur dioxide into the stratosphere.
This will slightly cool the climate, especially as the volcano is on the Equator.
