Paul Home blogs: "Cooling The Past In Holland" Before GHCN tampering: data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/show_station.cgi?id=633062600003&dt=1&ds=1De Bilt is the only long running temperature station in the Netherlands used by GISS. (Maastricht Airport only goes back to 1991). In 2011, using the GHCN V2 database, GISS showed the raw temperature record as per the graph above, We can see the all too familiar pattern of warm years in the 1930’s and 40’s, followed by a much colder interval, and then a recovery since the 1980’s. GHCN decided that this could obviously not be right, and adjusted it to this: data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/show_station.cgi?id=633062600000&dt=1&ds=12Altogether, temperatures prior to 1950 have been adjusted down by as much as 1C. Now, of course, it may be possible that the original temperature record was in error. But the funny thing is that similar adjustments have been made at every other nearby station, with records prior to 1950. (Aachen and Lille have no data between 1900 and the 1990’s). Can't melt quick enough for these guys: Ferry Stuck In Ice Off Nova Scotia. "While sea ice in this area is not unusual at this time of year, the extent and thickness of the ice is noteworthy". "Last winter the ice moved into the area in late March and early April". said Darrell Mercer of Marine Atlantic. “This winter is much more challenging than past winters.” “This year, it (the ice) moved in early to mid-February, and it doesn’t show any signs of going away any time soon,” he said. “I’ve heard the Canadian Coast Guard say it’s the worst of the 30-year averages they’ve been keeping.” www.professionalmariner.com/Web-Bulletin-2015/Icebreaker-helps-free-stranded-ferry-off-Nova-Scotia-with-VIDEO/

WINTER 1880-81 This photograph was taken in March 1881 of a train passing through snow-covered Minnesota in the worst snow season ever recorded there. SNAP... The UK experienced a "Great Blizzard" ten years later in 1891.Between 9 and 13 March 1891 Cornwall and Devon where almost entirely cut off from the rest of Britain by a storm of such terrible ferocity that more than 200 people and 6,000 animals perished. The fateful journey of the 6.34pm Princetown Train (Dartmoor) on March 9th 1891. The train departed with 6 passengers on the evening of the 9th March. As the train was nearing Horsford Farm, it became stuck in a snow drift caused by a massive blizzard. The 6 passengers were left stranded until help could get through, some 3 days later, on the morning of the 11th March. The train itself was not freed from snow until 19th!

Spot the data-set with the "hockey stick" adjustments - all data-set plotted with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) series. Is it A: the satellite RSS lower troposphere global mean: Is it B: the satellite UAH lower troposphere global mean: Or, is it C: the UK Met Office's HADCRUT4:

NY decline in temps has been adjusted away: New York January temperatures had been massively tampered with to cool the past by three degrees, and eliminate the cooling trend. Perhaps they had good reason for this, and it needed to be homogenized with a nearby station to bring it in line? Let’s look at the next station over at Elmira, N.Y. Guess what, exactly the same data tampering – they knocked three degrees off the past temperatures and made the cooling trend disappear. Perhaps the adjusters believe there was a massive conspiracy of global warming deniers in 1895 tampering with the temperature record? www.universetoday.com/118639/what-could-explain-the-mysterious-ring-in-antarctica/Ever since its discovery was announced earlier this year, the 3 km-wide ring structure discovered on the of Antarctica has been a source of significant interest and speculation. Initially, the discovery was seen as little more than a happy accident that occurred during a survey of East Antarctica by a WEGAS (West-East Gondwana Amalgamation and its Separation) team from the Alfred Wegener Institute The Gaia is trying to tell us something?

Paul Homewood divulges how temperature adjustments have transformed Arctic climate history: Here's the GISS creative proof that “climate change” is the rapidly warming Arctic (called the World’s thermometer), proof that global warming cannot have stopped: Yet it is well established that the Arctic warmed up rapidly during the 1930’s and 40’s, before temperatures plunged in the 1960’s and 70’s. James Hansen, himself, recognised this, as the graph below from his 1987 paper Global Trends of Measured Surface Air Temperature , showed: So how much is what we have been seeing in recent years just part of that cycle? How much warmer is the Arctic now than it was 80 years ago? Quite a lot, according to GISS: However, “cooling the past” adjustments have been carried out in the Arctic region, and that the scale and geographic range of these is breathtaking. Nearly every current station from Greenland, in the west, to the heart of Siberia (87E), in the east, has been altered in this way. The effect has been to remove a large part of the 1940’s spike, and as consequence removed much of the drop in temperatures during the subsequent cold decades. Paul Homewood reminds his readers that the adjustments are global: Greenland: Iceland: Russia: Australia: None of these are isolated instances, and there are other similar adjustments at other stations in these countries. You might also note that these are all long running and complete, or near complete, records. It is often claimed that these adjustments are needed to “correct” errors in the historic record, or compensate for station moves. All of which makes the adjustment at Valentia Observatory even more nonsensical Valentia Observatory, situated in SW Ireland, is regarded as one of the highest quality meteorological stations in the world, located at the same site since 1892, well away from any urban or other non climatic biases. The Irish Met Office say this:- Since the setting up of the Irish Meteorological Service, the work programme of the Observatory has greatly expanded and it has always been equipped with the most technologically advanced equipment and instrumentation. The Observatory is well known and very highly regarded by the scientific community. As well as fulfilling its national and international role within Met Éireann it is involved in many projects with other scientific bodies both in Ireland and abroad. If we cannot get accurate temperature trends in Valentia, we cannot get them anywhere. Yet the GHCN algorithm decides that the actual temperatures measured there do not look right, and lops 0.4C off temperatures before 1967. Worse still, the algorithm uses a bunch of hopelessly unreliable urban sites, as far away as Paris, to decide upon the “correct temperature”, as Ronan Connolly illustrated. If you wanted to find a way to fraudulently alter the global temperature record upwards, you would be hard put to find a better way than this. SNIP "They created a computer animation to show where they believed CO2 was emitted and how it traveled around the globe. They were hoping that their new satellite would bolster their theory but the data came back saying just the opposite that the primary sources of CO2 on the planet are coming from below the equator from the tropical rainforests." SNIP What's NASA to do? I'd suggest "adjustments" be made to the rainforests so they fall into line with the modeling & stop producing evil pollutants - cut them all down?

Thought this subject deserved its own thread... Paul Homewood takes a look at Paraguay’s Temperature Record & discovers all station data sets have been subject to adjustments: These warming adjustments have taken place at every single, currently operational site in Paraguay. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse; how does GISS compensate for the effect of urban heat (UHI)? Why, it cools the past (of course)!!! Thx cuttydyer! I will get through that in the next few days....much appreciated ? There's a period BBC documentary available on Youtube about the terrible Winter of 1963. At 45mins & 57secs the meridional jet stream is mentioned (see image below) The meridional jet in '63 was obviously not due to "Arctic amplification"; it just happens that 1963 was near solar minimum! I can't help but notice that here in the UK, we are having a continuous cold snap, if it lasts the next 2 weeks as metcheck is suggesting (they havn't been wrong so far...) i dont doubt this will be a well below average january (average warm, 6.9..average cold 1.3) This also is a continuation of numerous cold and exceptionally snowy winters (2008-2012/13) broken only by last winter where very wet weather that occurred first in 2012 dominated all winter 2013/14. so far...the gap in the cold coincided with the run-up to the peak in the current solar cycle. Now this is purely observation, i am no a scientist in any respect apart from layman interest, however, to my mind it seems the UK's climate in this instance is tracking the solar cycle. I fully understand that historically attempts to allign the climate with the solar cycle have not born fruit. But is it possible that once the solar cycle drops below a certain level the feedback systems which help moderate the flux in the climate fail and allow us to observe the raw effect of say UV emmisions from the sun to greater impact the weather, at least here in the UK?? Here are a few papers / articles supporting top down solar modulation of the jet / AO / NAO. The Met Office paper pdf is particularly interesting.
