This has hit the news (Islands' Sounder), so I'd like to share my version. The tree hit room 2116, which is on the third floor. Most of the building was empty--but I had given the people in the room below the tree new keys to allow late check-out. They, and the housekeepers who might have cleaned 2116, all left about 3 pm. The housekeeping supervisor and I were busy in another building. At approx. 4:45 pm, we were standing outside and heard POP... POP... POP... POP... Pop bang explosion. We got into Rojo (company vehicle) and drove towards the 2100 building. As we passed above laundry on the dirt road, I saw smoke or dust above 2100. At some point, I called on the radio and reported an explosion or landslide at 2100. When we arrived at the building, we were immediately able to account for all guests and employees. 2121 had checked out, and the housekeepers left work early. Occupants of the single room in use were quickly relocated. Attachments:
