Misrepresentation. The Declination is back again where it started. Your nonsense plots have no place here.

So this looks like a pretty hefty storm in progress (Kp=6, G2). Any idea where that came from? I thought we were in quiet spot...

So this looks like a pretty hefty storm in progress (Kp=6, G2). Any idea where that came from? I thought we were in quiet spot... It is due to a Corotating Interaction Region between two interplanetary sector boundaries. The boundary is at the front of the large solar wind high-speed stream from a coronal hole.

Here is what we know about SC4 and SC5: Thanks. Well, that scuppers the 2- cycle theory

The storm is a recurrence of the corotating interaction region that also hit about 27 days ago and 27 days before that. The region is at the front of a large, long-lived coronal hole. Expect it to also be there 27 days from now.

Kevin : on front page you wrote the record solar flux : 125 (2/18/11) but isn't it 180 (2/24/11) To know if cows and earthquakes are correlated with solar activity we need gigantic measurements with all data between heliosphere and atmosphere even all computers of the world coud be saturated a good job for the future On this picture it seems to me reversed polarity is visible on north, isn't it ? sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/assets/img/latest/latest_2048_HMIB.jpg

MEDIA ADVISORY : M11-043
NASA Reschedules Teleconference To Explain Missing Sunspots www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2011/mar/HQ_M11-043_SunSpots.htmlAhh yes I can see it now. Along with the announced guest I expect to see the news conference include Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Director Robert Mueller as well as NASA Solar Cycle Prediction Panel Chair Doug Biesecker. At the news conference it will be announced that acting on an anonymous tip from the Marshall Space Flight Center a Multijurisdictional Raid was undertaken serving search warrants on the residences of NASA Solar Cycle Prediction Panel Members. The goal of the raid was to recover the missing sunspots hoarded away by Panel Members. As the investigation is ongoing details were not released but Mueller did disclose that a Lead Lined Safe was discovered hidden below the floor boards of one residence. And HazMat Disposal trucks were seen outside each of the residences. Eric Holder said a Grand Jury would be enpanelled and indictments announced at a later date. Lookout Leif !

Bob-
I hate when scientists do this. The first line of the NASA presser description is:
"...to discuss the first computer model that explains the period of decreased solar activity..."
It should read:
"to discuss a solar model that describes, based on all our uncertainties and probable lack of complete data, the decrease to the best of our current abilites, which are limited..."
In more important news, Leif, what will these guys say? My bet is they call it a low cycle and don't mention L & P, or they claim the L & P effect as their own using other words or data to describe the magnetism change. Also betting they will claim it is a one or two cycle event so as not to get in the way of other "scientific truths" that might get toppled if we are entering a grand minima.
(no worries Bob, not referencing global warming, but instead the invarialbe sun...)

Ahh, so they are going to talk about circulation changes being causative of the current low number, but don't we already know that circulation changes are causative of the sunspot number and the movements of spots over the cycle (eg. from the poles to the equator)? So what would be new here, the reason for the circulation change and the prediction that it can be long lasting?
I am pretty sure the above is grossly oversimplistic, but...to give you a target to shoot at.
