My comment would be that this man has a jumped up idea of his own importance. This character trait seems to permeate all his output. It is being fed even by crowds of baying hotheads at pop-concerts. He almost certainly expects all the funding in the recent 'stimulus bill' flagged for AGW research will go to him at Goddard.

I'm not at all suprised by Hansens remarks. The IPCC needs to secure funding for their work and they need to do it before the current term of the president ends and before more evidence debunking AGW becomes public.
Comments such as "4 years to save the planet" "Global warming is worse than expected" "Coal fire power stations are factories of death"
are scare mongering tactics in trying to secure this funding whatever the cost. I would expect these comments to continue and increase in the coming years.
When it becomes apparent what they have been doing all of science will be tarred with the same brush.
I hope these people will be held to account for what they are doing to science. They are being just as irresponsible on behalf of the public as the bankers who have brought about the financial crisis.

Do you think Jim had anything to do with that co2 satellite that just crashed?

This just in!Miller, Joshua Rhett. NASA's Chief Climate Scientist Stirs Controversy With Call for Civil Disobedience News. FOXNews.com - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News, February 26, 2009. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,501064,00.html "NASA's chief climate scientist is in hot water with colleagues and at least one lawmaker after calling on citizens to engage in civil disobedience at what is being billed as the largest public protest of global warming ever in the United States. "In a video on capitolclimateaction.org, Dr. James Hansen is seen urging Americans to "take a stand on global warming" during the March 2 protest at the Capitol Power Plant in Southeast Washington, D.C. "We need to send a message to Congress and the president that we want them to take the actions that are needed to preserve climate for young people and future generations and all life on the planet," says Hansen, who has likened coal-fired power plants to "factories of death" and claims he was muzzled by the Bush administration when he warned of drastic climate changes. ... "Hansen will be in attendance and is expected to speak at the "completely nonviolent, peaceful" protest, Leonard said."

motls.blogspot.com/2009/03/hansen-effect-predicted-for-dc-on.htmlOn the page with directions, participants are encouraged to dress the best clothes they have (according to an aptly named website, "It's getting hot in here"), to survive a few hours without drugs, and to bring USD 50-100 which is the usual amount for these hippies to get out of jail at similar events. Meanwhile, in the real world, Weather Underground predicts that D.C. will experience -11 °C on that day which should break the record low temperature for March 2nd, -10 °C, that was measured in 1925, before the previous Great Depression. ;-) A winter storm warning is in effect between Sunday 2 p.m. and Monday 2 p.m. so theirs could be a pretty "cool" event. :-) New snow is very likely, too. Total snow accumulation should be between 5 and 8 inches which could make the pictures of the anti-global-warming rally "cute". I wish the passionate believers a very warm afternoon and a functional heating system in the prison. :-)
