Quite clearly there needs to be an effort at better security procedures and backup systems as we become more and more dependent on the internet. If you simply have a program of clearing old passwords and regularly updating them; the scope of af evil-intent attack would be stunted. Operating a vessel on the ocean is study in this. If you go with non-redundant systems its just a matter of time until you have a disaster. Careful skippers have backups for all systems and for some systems like bilge pumps the backup systems might go 3 to 5 systems deep. . . .right down to a bucket as the last resort. Backup anchors, backup generation, backup signaling devices, backup fuel, multiple engine and running gear systems. The coast guard even requires a backup boat in many cases. What you find is the same boats towing and the same boats getting towed. The difference is in the planning. The year 2000 problem fizzled precisely because so much attention was given it and most had done their fixes and preparatory work well in advance.

Astromet, Are you still standing by your earlier forcast for cycle 24 "The Sun is ramping up to its maximum through 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, with a bit of leveling off in 2016 and 2017 and then more so in 2018, 2019, 2020, to begin a new grand minimum phase. " The NASA forcast is talking about a smothed maximum 60 in early 2013 and then a downward trend through to 2017. They also say it will the lowest sun spot maximum for 100 years Yes, I am still standing by my forecast for the Sun. Astromet, do you have a metric for measuring the activity of the sun? What will ramp up through 2015?

Yes, I apply my own metrics to measuring the activity of the Sun. We're still seeing increasing spots on the sun gradually building with CMEs sometimes hurled at times toward Earth. We will continue to see increased sunspots through to the middle years of this decade before we reach another minimum, which opens up a new worldwide climate change regime, global cooling, to start later this decade.

Theo: When will you make available your Winter forecast? I'm particularly interested in the PNW and in Canada BC/AB with particular interest in the mountains. I ski. Thank you. I've had a very busy year with projects, but my Astromet work is taking a step to another level into next year. You'll note that astronomic conditions are shifting as they do during the autumn months before winter and we will have action at the end of October 2012, along the east coast with a trisector-phased storm consisting of the remnants of Hurricane Sandy, a cold front system coming in from the west along with cold air dropping down from Canada. We will be looking at how the science of baroclynic energy works next week with this anomalous storm as a mix of PV anomaly associates itself with a trough that will turn this system into a major weather-maker along the eastern U.S. coast. The mid-Atlantic states will especially feel this, as a huge amount of energy closes in at the end of October with sub 950 mb central pressure. Halloween will be a washout for the kids. This heads into Full Moon Week starting Monday, Oct. 29, and as the systems meet, it expands and will also have that energy feed as pressures drop with the storm-system - literally turning into a kind of tropical seclusion with a strong cold front on the western edge of it. The major problem with the storm will be its wide radius, gale force winds and precipitation. It is a dangerous situation building for next week along the east coast - especially the Mid-Atlantic stretching to the Ohio Valley. The regions that should see heavy wet snow are southwestern Virginia, Northwest North Carolina and parts of western Pennsylvania and Ohio. I figure that the storm will be very active most of next week (Oct. 28-Nov. 2) since high tides from the full moon week are in play and it is a large system that will cover a wide selection of areas along the east coast and extend inland quite a bit. The impact will certainly be the strong winds and precipitation the system brings. If you live in these regions of the east coast, especially along Interstate 95 then it's a good time to make preparations this weekend before next week and be prepared for potential power outages.

Most people are never prepared for scanarios like this because the IQ of society is in the dumps, this includes the conventional climate centers and the federal government. For instance, despite advanced warning of the drought climate to come this year, farmers went right ahead anyway and planted a record crop. Now, as they wait for a Farm Bill that the U.S. Congress will not sign (fighting partisan wars over food stamps) during a economic crisis, there are more 'big storms' on the horizon to come than just Sandy.

Theodore, just out of curiousity, have you done a winter forecast for the NH winter?
(I probably missed it somewhere along the line.)

I notice astro mut goes back and edits all his forecasts to change them ever so slightly to fit current events. If you notice all his messages have been edited concerning the storm on the 26th of October.

I see no evidence of editing after the time stamp on the original post.

Do you have any evidence to submit other than your word?

Hi Ray, I will continue to post my public service long-range seasonal forecasts (including winter/spring 2013.) I've been busy working a lot but do have a new astronomic forecasting company and website on the way. Once we have the subscription up I will let you know. That will be for specific regions of the world. There will be a public site you can go to see my long-range forecasts. I always leave them up for all to see unaltered (despite some lying swines who falsely claim that I change my forecasts to suit 'current events' which I've never done because I am a true forecaster, unlike those who would rather lie, cheat and behave jealous because they are too lazy to work as hard as I do to get the job done.) A short note on Winter 2013 - From my seasonal outlook generally for North America, we've got a cold, but relatively dry and very windy winter coming. There are anomalies occurring, but it isn't ENSO. We are getting a taste of the global cooling regime I've forecasted to officially start by 2017. We will see strange cold blasting storms like the most recent superstorm. Those who follow my forecasts know that I've been writing about global cooling for some time here on solar cycle boards. The autumn full moon storm I forecasted for this full moon week of Oct. 29-Nov. 7th was written back in August. I posted that on the August 24th edition of Global Astrology; while some bozos were on sitting on their behinds on vacation. I didn't have a summer vacation. I was too busy WORKING.
