I think it was just an ordinary filament, with an unusual appearance (to us humans) due the particular EUV-wavelength filtering (171A I think). Looks a lot different at other wavelengths. The wavelengths correspond roughly to temperature and selectively accentuate the rendering of different features such as filaments and magnetic loops.
