Iceland has been very cold this past winter. Seems it isn't warming up very fast, even tho it is near the Arctic.

Sure looks like it Acidohm. Hopefully it isn't a repeat of the previous cold period. Fishing tanked, the economy tanked and there was a lot of out migration to the USA.

I have gained a lot of interest in Iceland over the last few years and plan to take the family in the next 2 or so....would be sad if they become affected by climate changes in this way.

I am of Icelandic heritage. Live amongst many who still speak the language. We have a celebration called August Duce. The President of Iceland has been here many times.

It's possible that like my Irish Heritage, there are more nationals living abroad then at home?! My wife's cousin is (maybe was?? they had an election recently....i think....) President of Croatia, but then she has about 1000 aunties and i never really worked it to my advantage

Missouriboy, your a data guy?? Pulling up the argo floats on google earth which plots their routes as they drift in the current for anything up to 10 years or so ago, specifically i'm looking at the NAD. There are dozens of these things in N Atlantic along with each point of the plot giving dates etc. Thinking these could a good way to determine current er, currents eg, is NAD not making it as far north etc. I am however starting to 'swim' in info.....how would you suggest making sense of it all...if possible?? (excuse the weak puns.....!) Acidohm. Ran across this site which summarizes newer studies questioning current beliefs regarding the structure of meridional overturning currents in ocean circulation. Floater circulation tracking is discussed. theresilientearth.com/?q=content/ocean-conveyor-belt-dismissedtheresilientearth.com/?q=content/conveyor-belt-model-brokentheresilientearth.com/?q=content/ocean-conveyor-belt-confounds-climate-scienceParticularly liked the Duck ocean monitor armada!

I read some time ago that the ocean currents were only really studied in any depth at the time of world war 2 for submarine warfare. Since then the only studies have been classified again for the nuclear submarines. It comes to something when the drift of flotsam like toy ducks is used for scientific study. It seems that almost all climate science is poor logic based on false assumptions in pursuit of funding.

From Ocean Conveyor Belt Confounds Climate Science: " Climate models are called GCM, general circulation models, because the two most important parts of the models are atmospheric and ocean circulation simulations. Of the two, the ocean holds the most heat energy and has the strongest impact on climate change. It is clear that climate science does not understand precisely how ocean circulation works, and that implies that all of their model simulations do not reflect reality. The upshot of this new information is that Europe's threatened ice age no longer seems imminent, at least not from a conveyor belt slowdown caused by global warming.
This shows the weakness of the science behind climate change. The predictions of future climate change are based on current understanding of how climate works—the theory. And the theory is based on observations of climate behavior in the past—the data. Except that the data regarding fluctuations in the MOC were spotty and incomplete. Now, with better data it looks like the theory is wrong. This in turn, means that all existing models are based on incorrect assumptions and may also have been calibrated using erroneous historical data. Yet predictions of future disaster generated by these models form the heart of the climate change alarmists' case for radical socioeconomic change. And those of us skeptical of climate science's prognostications are considered the foolish ones." The last paragraph deserves greater publicity.
