Le Figaro reports that Sulphur pollution has been detected in northern France. Measuring station in the Île-de-France identifies “very unusual origin from heavy pollution with sulfur and sulfates.” Between Monday night and Wednesday, the dust emitted by the volcano one Icelandic Holuhraun, linked to the volcanic system Bardarbunga 2 , caused a pollution 3 very unusual air over much of northern France, warned Airparif, the 'Ile association monitoring air quality. According to the Icelandic Environment Agency, the volcano Holuhraun emits up to 60,000 tons of SO2 per day 4 , well above all pollution SO2 emitted by transport, energy, home heating in the whole of Europe, which is an average of 14,000 tonnes per day. The alert was given in France by one of the instruments of Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory analysis of climate and environment (LSCE, CEA-CNRS-UVSQ) operated by CEA Orme des Wild cherry. "On Monday 22 evening, I found by checking the instruments there was a high level of fine particles, and that they were not as sulfates, which normally never happens," says Jean by phone Sciare, aerosol specialist at LSCE. More polluting volcano that all of Europe "Normally, sulfates are emitted by burning coal in Eastern Europe, and when the clouds come to us they are mixed with other pollutants. But then, there were only sulfates. By calling colleagues Ineris, they learned that they had measured their side peak SO2 (sulfur dioxide) in Picardie, Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Champagne-Ardenne. When I heard that, I doubted that I was in the presence of pollution from a volcanic eruption. " By tracing a posteriori trajectories of air masses which then flew over France, the researcher realized that the cloud flew over Iceland. "I was the first to raise the alarm when the air masses containing volcanic dust as they flew over the North Sea, avoiding Britain, made ??landfall in northern France and are descended to the center of France before returning to the Atlantic, "says Jean Sciare. The last peak pollution fine sulfate particles was recorded Wednesday in the day but Airparif will remain vigilant, because this "volcanic pollution adds to pollution sources related to human activities," said the association in a statement 5 . baering.github.io/There has just been a magnitude 5.2 earthquake close to the surface. Somehow, I don't think the main event at Bardurbunga is that far away. Mind you,the current fissure eruption is quite impressive!! Fortunately, I will be safely on the way back to Australia before enough dust might get into France to paralyse flights, from the weather forecast.

Chicago airport woes continue two days after sabotage halted flights

baering.github.io/Lots of largish earthquakes quite close to the surface. Opening Time soon at Bardurbunga?

hraun.vedur.is/ja/Bardarb/BARC/This Link plots the fall of a gps unit sat in the BB caldera, it has fallen over 30m since the event started. Bare in mind the existing gps units surrounding the BB area are rising and spreading, the fall is in spite of this. It has been an extremely linear drop of around 0.5m/day, larger drops can be seen after large (5+) quakes. Guesses are at around 45m after which the 'lid' no longer supports itself, but really....who knows! Additionally, high mag 3 and mag 4 quakes as common as mag 2 quakes were a few weeks ago ?

Yes...but it only works if you start the graph 16/08...

Bardabunga has had a quake swarm today, the subsidence of the caldera has nearly reached 45m, it is now at half the rate seen at the beginning, but over twice the area.
Still an active event, and concerning those who know more about it then myself.

He hints that Mt. Lassen might go. I don't think it will. Nevada is a rift valley. I hardly think earthquakes in a rift valley is signally and impending eruption of a volcano hundreds of miles away across a fault line. Stretching of the valley floor more likely. But hey, what do I know.
