Cambrian period - around 530 million years ago. They seemed to manage to survive the Eemian warm period quite adequately and are found almost everywhere from the North Atlantic to a few outcrops just to the East of West Island New Zealand .... and in the Persian Gulf where I hear that water temperatures can range from 13C to 36C.

I worked in Jeddah Saudi Arabia from 1996 to 1999. Those Red Sea waters are warm and the extensive fringing coral reefs along that shoreline were very healthy.
