I beg to differ i live in NZ and i disagree so would a few people in central South island so would the ski operators who are crowing about the early start to the season and when asked if they were worried about the unusual early snow on the Australian fields if it they expect it to slow the season down a bit they said it might. So Australia has more snow than usual NZ has more snow central has nearly a record cold snap. tvnz.co.nz/national-news/one-our-coldest-days-in-history-new-zealand-shivers-mercury-plummets-6344074-20 is amazingly cold for New Zealand but more amazingly it was over 5 degrees colder over a hundred years ago. I had no idea it could that cold in the South Island. The coldest we had in Helsinki Finland this winter was one day of -16C and mostly nothing like that at all for the entire Winter. Instead of just focusing on one day instead look at the damn trends. The trends are showing a clear change with more extreme variations of either cold or hot that just stick around for entire seasons. There is no inbetween anymore at all it is either very mild for season or cold.

So the jet stream will according to forecasts move north of here for one day giving us our first and pretty much only summer day with 28c if they even get that forecast right.. Then a week later temps will dip down to 9c highs! How is this normal?? It is starting too look like a weaker version of the extreme variants we had during the "year without summer". And yet sun has no effect at all??? yeah f**k**g right We are in july and it keep switching between summer and WINTER with most days being in winter mode. We sort of have the same we have averaged 160mm of rain for each of the last 3 months which is not usual at all, normally our big lake here is at it's lower level from march through to November since February it has been at max height and it's still raining the power co are loving it.

More impressively Finland had a record low of about -56C in only 1998.

Yep Fredzl4dh. Every time I hear someone mention how "weird" the weather is lately, I refer them to Jeff Callaghan and say "Worst in living memory is not a good measure wrt climate/weather." After the early May pounding we had here in SE QLD, I sent out an email titled "The June Cyclone of 1967" to my address book. I referenced Callaghan and told how the Brisbane River was running a banker on the afternoon of the Monday of the Queens' Birthday long weekend 1967. I didn't want the news media to have it all their own way ...... PS: Your area sounds like a nice place to live, a little more scenic than Brisbane & surrounds.

And yet sun has no effect at all??? yeah f**king right We are in july and it keep switching between summer and WINTER with most days being in winter mode. I live in south Sweden and we are also feeling the same kind of extreme weather, even if it's not of the same magnitudes that you are describing, Boxman. We were well into June before we had our first plesent summer day with temperatures of about 23 C. Most of the rest of June was cold and rainy and followed May in that sense. Even on sunny days in mid/late June the temperature did not reach higher than about 20 C, which feels just strange with about 18 hours of daylight. Now we've had two days with 29 C and tomorrow and on Sunday it will perhaps be even hotter, just to flip back to the same weather pattern again next week with maximum temps of 18 - 20 C and rain. Just read that the North west mountain range in Sweden could get snow next week. It's starting to reminding me of the cold summers we had back in the 80's.
