you're gonna enjoy global temps this year Naut! If you're lucky you'll have a low grade Nino to blame it on but when it tops the 'super Nino' just gone there will still be questions to answer!...... and then we are playing with a possible blue Ocean event across the Arctic this summer so that's another couple of Nino's worth of energy awaiting entry into the autumn/winter climate system.
If ever there was a time to turn people onto AGW it is now and Trump has done just that for millions!
As the climate shocks roll in this year we will see more and more demands for 'reasons', other than AGW, for the climate shifts. I hope there are some better explanation's out there than 'its all down to altered data.....'
Should the QBO again fail to switch Easterly ( it is currently trying again.... a year later....) all bets will be off! Should it manage its switch then the easterly phase favours a loopy polar Jet.......

I know the Left doesn't like to talk about it ... cause AGW would have to become SGW ... and praying isn't as popular as fleecing the poor ... but what about the sun? That big heat lamp in the sky? There is a big, natural experiment underway even as we speak. I hate to pre-judge, but lots of tar and feathers on simmer right now ... and the demanded sacrifice is gonna have it coming. Cause this ain't science anymore and hasn't been for some time now.

If there's a blue ocean event in the arctic this year, I vow to run through my local town midday on a Saturday, naked, while shouting "Trump for prime minister"

Careful! If 'blue' means 'Democrat' you'll be freezing your kiester off in an early snow storm. Can't be worse than the French calling for Obama as president That could actually be useful. Then all the Progressives that were threatening to leave the US if Trump was elected would have another place to go. I'm sure that the French would grow to love them ... just as they would the disgruntled climate scientists that Macron has already invited into France.

It would appear that if we continue with the temp trend Jan and Feb have given us 2017 will break the record of nino Spike 2016? How would that sit with this 'cooling'?
More importantly how would folk explain why the year after an alleged 'Super Nino', and following a Nina winter, global temps are able to overhaul ,and beat, the global temp spike the Nino drove???
But then if NASA we correct in their study looking at 'The impacts of Dimming', issued in the noughties, then there is over 1c of warming already installed and just needing the loss of particulate/sulphate pollution to appear? China's reduction in coal use ( and cancellation of 103 coal fired power stations) whilst ploughing into clean air tech to sort out their urban pollution is now showing impact?
We have already realised 0.2c of the 'missing warmth' over the last 3 years and I can see no reason why this 'realisation' would not be set to continue?
I do not expect a pristine atmosphere from this but any significant reduction in China's pollution will lead to instant warming being measured. this is occurring along side the Pacific Naturals running in the Augmenting warming phase and the increasing albedo flip , and milking of 'new energy' , across the Arctic.
I think it safe to say China will continue on its 'clean air' drive so the near term future will have warming from the brightening over the Pacific.
I think it safe to say that the levels of ice loss and open water that we are now accustomed to seeing across the Arctic will also continue to occur placing 'new energy' into the climate system year on year.
There looks to be no let up in our GHG rises with 'natural sources' now claiming the bulk of the increases so even if we stopped our polluting Mother N. is now at the point that She is reacting to our initial forcing with a combination of out gassing from northern soils and the northern permafrost alongside rain forest heat stresses reducing its capacity to draw down CO2.

youtu.be/qdTlXuTwvEQ3 years old, but some really great points... My favorite... "It's not that a 0.8°c over 150 years is alarming, it's both that it's even possible to measure such a difference through history AND that the world is so capable of keeping itself within such a tolerance!"
