This guy was on my front porch last night. Yes - We have the same problem - security lights on and off all night. Doesn't seem to concern the critters though.

Dr. Epstein was a renowned physician who earned his medical degree in his home town and then left for Manhattan. Soon he was invited to give a speech in his home town. As he placed his papers on the lectern they slid off onto the floor and when he bent over to retrieve them, at precisely the wrong instant, he farted and the microphone amplified it throughout the room. He was embarrassed but regained his composure to deliver his paper. As he concluded, he raced out the stage door, never to be seen in his home town again. Decades later, when his elderly mother was ill, he returned to visit her. He reserved a hotel room under a false name, Levy, and arrived under cover of darkness. The desk clerk asked him, "Is this your first visit to our city, Mr. Levy?" Dr. Epstein replied, "Well, young man, no, it isn't. I grew up here but then I moved away." "Why haven't you visited?" asked the desk clerk. I did visit once, many years ago, but an embarrassing thing happened and since then I've been too ashamed to return." The clerk consoled him. "Sir, while I don't have your life experience, one thing I have learned is that often what seems embarrassing to me isn't even remembered by others. I bet that's true of your incident too." Dr. Epstein replied, "Son, I doubt that's the case with my incident." "Was it a long time ago?" "Yes, many years." The clerk asked, "Was it before or after the Epstein Fart?"

From lower down a follow on article coins the phrase " idea of a digital nomad life.” - that was me from 1995 - 2005. I didn't realize that what I was doing was inventing a 'thing' Apart from the final years when travel to the USA made a really short stay uneconomic, I was spending no more than 3 days in a country. UK Friday/Saturday Travel to Brussels Sunday, check where I needed to be on Monday and either fly or drive to one of the 10 different EUROCONTROL research centers Monday/Tuesday Wednesday travel to another one of the 10 different EUROCONTROL research centers; Friday return to UK for company accounts etc. Occasionally of course there were longer and shorter sojourns for various reasons,However as you can imagine it became a little tedious Her that must be obeyed at home made it plain (often during long cellphone calls) that this was NOT what she had signed up for.

Much worse than this little guy, we have bats in our attic. I think that they are getting in from a tough spot to reach. Not looking forward to that project but scheduled for Saturday morning.

I think that the nomad life only works when all the nomads are traveling together ... and collectively enjoy the trip elements. Three to four weeks from the US to Croatia to N. Italy to S. France to Spain to Portugal to Wales to Ireland and back can be done at a reasonable price on the airbnb backbone ... but lacks the flexibility to extend a place you really like and rearrange the remaining pieces. Some places deserve longer stays, but solid stone and mountain goat terrain might put some off. A hard winter in places like Apricale would be challenging for those of us that have become soft with central heating. I did not ask them how they managed. Perhaps they seasonally migrate south. Not many (only the hardy I guess) still live in the old city. The young are off in the large cities making money. Will they return? Good film subject. I would like to spend more time in the area ... but this winter may not be the one. Their history is entriguing. Many of their genetic lines descend from the Ligures (an Indo-European people) that dominated this area since at least 2000 BC. Yamnaya related copper miners are documented across North Italy from perhaps 4000+ BC on their littoral migration from the steppe to Western Spain and beyond. The Alpine peoples have a long history of local autonomy that Americans can identify with. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiguresThe Comune of Apricale
The distinctive pine-cone shaped village we see today was begun sometime before the mid 13th century. The Comune of Apricale has records going back to 1267, with statues from the count of Vengtimiglia, establishing it as the first independent village in the whole of Liguria. These documents can be viewed with lots of other interesting material in the village museum. We know that in this part of the world around the 12th and 13th centuries a number of towns and cities emerged which were governed by a council of leading families. Genova was the largest, and controlled much of the Ligurian coast. Apricale, although a trading satellite of Ventimiglia, seems to have been one such, small but independently governed community. Such places developed distinctive ideas of citizenship and resisted the feudal lord and peasant relationships, which pre-dominated elsewhere in Europe at that time. The people of Apricale intended, as far as possible, to develop their own livelihoods rather than labour in support of a distant leisured class.apricale.info/apricale-history/

It's a funny skit, but time has made fools of Bobby and his friends.

Lucky it was not a killer whale it would not have spat him out, or not in one piece anyway And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
