Note that the reported surge of deaths of elderly in energy poverty was in a _ mild_ winter!! This year is currently forecast to be more like 2010 - very cold. I expect that the number of deaths will be even higher. Unfortunately, the government beancounters see this as a huge saving in state pensions and elderly care costs so really could not care less. Having been involved in 'care' conferences on elderly patients in hospitals (known in the NHS as 'bed blockers') the local council accountants and the NHS accountants are the ones most involved, as the argument is on who should pay for the patient's care. The NHS accountants trying to prove that the patient is not _ill_ just old (ie the council should pay for care) and the council trying to prove that the patient is _ill_ and needs to remain in hospital (ie the NHS should pay for care). The fact that they are arguing over the fate of someone's mother/father is of no significance to them at all. So they will see tens of thousands of deaths from cold as a reduction in case conference arguments.

Carbon pollution reduction is designed to make the planet cooler and rid the politicians of those troublesome elders !!! No matter. I'm twenty years up on Thomas à Becket already .... and no saint!

He did spend his time winding up Henry 2nd though and eventually Henry's 'heavies' visited and rid him of a troublesome priest. Reminded of that each time I hear Clarendon mentioned.

I think “Social Media” (likes, following, re-tweets) is driving ~90% of the mob madness we’re witnessing. Narcissistic Insanity is going viral Ratty.

[ Snip ] I think “Social Media” (likes, following, re-tweets) is driving ~90% of the mob madness we’re witnessing. Narcissistic Insanity is going viral Ratty. In 1927, ** on the Frost Report, there was a skit with John Cleese preparing to go out to dinner. He was preening at a mirror when his wife told him that his problem was a Narcissus Complex. Cleese replied, "No dear. A Narcissus is one who is foolishly infatuated with ones self. With me, it's the real thing." ** or thereabouts
