News and media coming from the UK appears impossibly strange. Are we being misled, or are things really that bad?

The media are making everything seem worse than it is. Flu and other deaths are overtaking COVID-19 but the hysterical fixation on COVID-19 has become a psychosis. Interestingly you will find that Fauci appears to have been replaced on the White House taskforce by a doctor who is looking at saving lives from all causes not just one. So there will be no more 'we are all going to die' pronouncements. History will not be kind to Fauci.

The people I work with in the UK have been complaining of the heat (and are mostly still working from home), but haven't even mentioned the panicdemic in weeks.

Sounds like here really, our business never even slowed down actually. Fake, self-inflicted crisis IMO. Japan recovered from muddy rubble of WW2 to dethrone the US auto industry in just 30 years, but here they tell us that we have a new normal and things will never be as good again. BTW, I wasn't really referring to economics in the above post, but I'm glad to hear you are doing well. A British seaside resort sounds great right now. Does it look anything like those old Victorian postcards?

Reminds me of the time a few years back standing in the shallows making sure kids were not venturing too far out - a few yards away a woman doing the same thing in a mixed color bikini bright red top and black bottoms...... then I realized it was not a red top - it was sunburn So yes dress codes are a little different.

"UK reels from biggest Covid hit of ANY major economy with GDP slumping a FIFTH as the country officially plunges into recession and Rishi Sunak warns of jobs bloodbath - but glimmer of hope as growth rebounded by 8.7% in June
The UK economy has officially entered recession after figures showed a second quarter of contraction GDP was down a shocking 20.4 per cent in the three month to June at height of the coronavirus crisis UK's hit in the first six months of 2020 was the worst in the G7 with slump set to be the biggest in 100 years The economy did recover to an extent in the month of June with the ONS finding 8.7 per cent growth "www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8618571/UK-OFFICIALLY-recession-plunging-shocking-20-4.html

There is always an element of timing in the data to generate a worst this or that.
The numbers are bad but who would have thought that the bulk of people sitting at home on subsidies would not generate a significant drop in output. This is not a Monty Python joke.
the real question is about the future. The UK is building herd immunity as is much of Europe but there will be setbacks as the weather cools and the offices fill the R will rise above 1 now and then. How smart are the polies could they institute a Vit D program with Zinc and HCQ or similar and get the economy going, just as it gains its independence from Europe. It will be the test of a more dynamic UK or not. Boris its your moment.
Boris has one big handbrake his partner. She is attractive but very green.

this is not hard to answer ..for those that were well off 60k+ a yr jobs your seeing quiet a few losing there as they are working for big company's. and big company's downshift in times like these and yes even us lower paid people are getting hit but not as much .. and it really depends where you live ..down south are getting hit way more than us northerners. my bro walked out of his £30k job a week ago ..and yesterday got another (he's the guy who plans where all the water pipes and electrics, gas, wastepipes go on a new build area). but i don't see any major hardships for most of us yet .. hell i just bought a house and spent £15k tidying it up (after the 00's fall we lost ours and have been renting and saving) but time will tell lets see if there's a second wave which i don't think will happen more of us have had it than is being said .. i'd say 30-40% and with all the mixing it's sure to hit 60% by winter

If all countries were to ensure that their populations were sufficient in vitamin D and then had zinc supplements with quercetin or HCQ then the pandemic would be over in a fortnight. The antiviral effects of zinc and a zinc ionophore have been known for decades. It is simple and cheap and could have been started in February with just dietary advice - and the pandemic would not have happened. There is STILL no official dietary advice - on the contrary all the politicians have been trained to say without a vaccine we cannot get back to normal - which is completely untrue. If you catch COVID-19 have a week of zinc/HCQ/antibiotic then you will recover AND you will have immunity. Really no need to have a vaccine at all.

Same is true in Mid-Missouri. Tradesmen and those who actually create, build and maintain continue to prosper (more or less) if they have not acquired debt beyond their means. Professional tradesmen are almost always employed. They build and actually produce something for a living. Social justice graduates not so much. They must first destroy ... and having destroyed, know nothing about constructing.
