There can only be one winner, Acid, and - unless I am there to witness it - the melt DID NOT HAPPEN! If a tree falls in the forest .... etc, etc.

There is no crowd yet, so the ice looks safe for today. Every day my prediction gets closer!

Yes, I think Friday the 5th has a real good chance, warm with rain forecast in the area(Thurs 4 May). This means lots of runoff. I doubt it will go before then...

Well if North Korea is going to attack the US with its missiles that can't quite reach the west coast yet, Friday would be a good day!

Ice conditions on the Tanana River as of April 28th, 2017 are as follows:
Due to conditions of the ice on the Tanana River (where the Tripod is located) the last ice measurement was taken on April 24th, 2017 when the ice was 29.7 inches thick.
The Clock is being hooked up today, and we will have watchman keeping an eye on the ice 24 hours a day going forward until the Tanana River breaks up and the Tripod moves!
The main channel of the Nenana River has opened up and is cutting a channel from the mouth of the Nenana River into the Tanana River's south bank about 1/4 mile down stream from the Tripod. That Channel is now open 3 to 4 miles along the south bank of the Tanana River. About one mile up river from the Tripod on the Tanana River, there is a main channel of open water along the south bank, ending about 1/2 of a mile up river from the Tripod. The weather forecast for the next 8 days is calling for mid 50's in the daytime with 32 to 37 degrees in the evening. With the afternoon's warm up there is standing (surface) water on the banks of the river. There are also visible dark spots on the ice, indicating the ice is rotting. Some of these dark spots show surface water as well. It is possible that the Tanana River ice could move out within the next 3 to 5 days.
Good Luck to you all!
We will update this page Daily until the Tanana River Ice breaks up.
