Okay, here's a dumb question: How many of us have written to our elected representatives? Have you let your Congressman / MP / soviet know what you think of AGW? Or the cost of alleged AGW solutions in the context of world-wide recession?
I'd suggest posting in this thread only AFTER you've done so. Let's see how many letters are generated this month. [Mr. Hansen has already sent his letter, which I hope you've all read.]
Oh. Some guidelines: Be polite. Don't try to explain the entire science of AGW in your letter--representatives typically don't have time to grasp the full picture. Just hit the high points. Keep it simple and direct. One page, if possible. Emphasise that solutions adopted will have to stand the test of time, and panic solutions are likely to backfire. Avoid name-calling. Be focused: I'm not going to tell my senator about my improved aluminum foil helmet design--I'll save that for another letter.
Remember: The pen is mightier than...than...that other thingie.

I started corresponding with my Member of Parliament about 6 years ago. I started off by going to see him in person. This took some 6 months to arrange. Unfortunately, here in Ottawa Canada, my constituency has voted Liberal consistently. Our just ex-Liberal Leader, Stephen Dion was Environment Minister, and is a confirmed warmaholic. My MP, David McGuinty is the Environment critic in the "shadow cabinet". I am afraid everything I have written in the last years has fallen on deaf ears.

This is an excellent idea. We should all write those letters.

Okay, I've started my letter. It may take me several days to write it. It's hard to put some of this down in writing calmly and dispassionately. I have to keep simplifying it, not try to tell it all in one letter. At least I know who to write to and how. (US Snail mail gets put in a warehouse and takes 90 days to get delivered.) To write a US Representative, take this link: www.house.gov/htbin/wrep_findrepOr, for senators and reps: www.congress.org/congressorg/home/And if you take the attitude that nothing will happen, nothing will happen.

Okay, buckaroos and buckaresses, I've sent my letter to two Senators and my Rep. Wanna see it? "I am a chemical engineer, and I've also studied astronomy and astrophysics. After some investigation, I see a disturbing pattern of obfuscation and misinformation by AGW proponents: o Errors in data handling e.g., Mann's Hockeystick Diagram o Destruction of data integrity e.g., GISTEMP Homogenization o Selection of partial data ("cherry-picking") o Shifting measurements towards urban sites with UHI (Urban Heat Island) effects o Use of UHI corrections that are very low o Changing nomenclature, a sign of propaganda. e.g., AGW is now MMCC, "Man Made Climate Change" o Politicization of science o Refusal to release the inner working of Climate Models. o Lack of transparency o A one-sided barrage of AGW propaganda Even though global temperatures have dropped for 10 years, AGW proponents react to dissent with personal attacks and vituperation. The science is not "in." The rush to sign the Kyoto Protocol or similar treaties is extremely unwise when you take into account the potential impact on a very sick economy, and the fact that temperatures are dropping. I urge you to oppose all AGW-theory-based legislation or expenditures." --End of letter-- If you are a US citizen, use this link below to send e-mails to your senators and representatives and the president in one shot. if you're not a Yank, write to your MP or other elected official and smoke a Cuban cigar, which we can't get, still. www.congress.org/congressorg/home/Now I feel better. You, on the other hand, can only feel guilt, because you haven't written your letter yet!!! GUILT! GUILT! GUILT! You will wake up at 3 ack emma feeling GUILT! Better write.

That'll confuse them.

What we have here is a failure to... go on much farther at all: ...and then this one: In the first, you can see how the trendline projected a rough date when further investment in our economy would no longer get a return on your money. In the second, you can see that the recent injection by the Fed has hastened that date to... today. Therefore, in order to fund virtually any public expenditures at all, we'll pretty much be forced to confiscate 401(k)s and other such plans seeing as how the Chinese, Japanese and other former investors won't be able or willing to help out.

Oh, but Obama promises $1 TRILLION+ deficits for as far as the eye can see is going to grow the economy by "creating" 2-3 million new jobs and saving (whatever that means) jobs that would otherwise be lost. You are correct; 401K etc. is the last gold mine for the government to steal.

Zimbabwe have suitable presses for the 1 billion dollar notes, and probably financial advisers with the appropriate experience.

Naaaaah, we can print the $100s, just a lot of them.
(The money doesn't actually need to be physically printed to be part of the money supply anymore. It's just an entry at a keyboard.)

But the US can't simply make money any more - don't they have to borrow it from The Fed at interest? So all they can do is get further into debt.
Bloomberg apparently has a FOI request in to find out what GDubya has signed over as collateral on the money needed to bail out the economy. Last time in the 30's the govt signed over the US population as pretty much slaves to pay The Fed back - one wonders what the payment is this time?

All very true. But look, buckaroos and buckaresses, get off your soapboxes and write your elected reps, willya? That's what this thread is about. Want to start another thread for hand wringing about money theory and fossil fuels and so forth? Great idea. But hand-wringing, even in a jillion threads, will do NOTHING! NO EFFECT! ZIP! NADA! NICHEVO! If you want to write your political reps about economic tipping points, FINE! Do it! Don't preach to the choir here. WRITE SOME FROGGING LETTERS!
Oy.
