Well we've had quite a mild week here in the UK and I noticed some plants popping their shoots through the soil.
So any one else seen signs of spring in the Northern Hemisphere?
;D

(Tongue in cheek) Here in Ottawa Canada, the days are getting longer, and the sunset has been getting later since about 11th December 2008. Other that that, the weather is absolutely normal, and the groundhog saw it's shadow on February 2nd.

Well, I live in Texas, where the number of freezing mornings has been fewer than my first two winters here (if memory serves). I went so far as to plant my spring vegetable garden ten days ago with my 3-year-old, and the seeds have sent up shoots across the beds. Statistically, we should have at least one more hard freeze, and if so I'll do my best to protect my "tender vegetation."
I travel on business to Providence, Rhode Island, frequently, and there they are having an "old-fashioned winter" with much snow and much cold. The big question for them is whether there will be a meaningful Nor'easter before winter ends -- most of their snow has come from transiting land storms rather than ocean storms, which is a little unusual.

Had a lovely Spring day today in the South of England.
Atlantic high pressure in control and the jet stream has moved north.
Still to early to believe Spring is here, otherwise I'd be out in the garden planting, I might also shake off all the colds I've been getting this Winter.

As we are now experiencing a snowstorm and 5 degF low temps this weekend, Spring is a nice thought.

Well it's still quite mild here it feels more like mid March. However in England you can never trust the weather to behave, it might be warm but it is cloudy

February 25, 2009 51N. Calgary, Alberta.
-21C. Wind chill -30C. 2 to 3 cm of new snow. Spring must be around the corner.
Moncton, New Brunswick had 1 meter of snow in 7 hours yesterday.
I would expect if global cooling is a reality, that the UK winter will be more like the east coast of North America at similar latitudes. Cold and very high snow fall.

Would love to get a link to the Moncton story (couldn't find it on Google)...

Spring is going to be late this year. According to my forecast for the coming season, we'll see some signs of a early spring, however, winter will remain with us through March and April, and spring will be kind of sluggish through May, until finally blooming in June.

It is nothing to do with climate, but do you know of our Canadian invention, with a trade name of Kozy Kotes? They are basically cones made of plastic in which you can put a lot of water. This enables you to plant things like tomatoes very early indeed, since overnight frosts cannot penetrate.
