This is a thread for all the cases of brain dead politicians passing edicts on energy and fuels with no regard to scientific and engineering truth - there are many countries and US states now talking about all electric futures with electric cars, aircraft, heating, etc based on electricity comes from a plug in the wall. The same politicians are shutting down gas, oil and coal powered generation and banning nuclear power and expect a few windmills and solar panels that cannot create enough power to make themselves, will nevertheless support an industrial economy.

"No more electricity for Germany
In a few years, Germany’s last coal and nuclear power plants shall be taken off the grid and shut down. Nobody knows where the electricity will then come from. One thing is certain: wind and sun won’t do it. The Wall Street Journal describes Germany’s phase-out of coal and nuclear power simply as “the stupidest energy policy in the world”. Although stupid environmental policy is routine, the paper continues, Germany still stands out clearly from this nonsense. While China’s coal consumption is rising, things are going downhill here. In a few years the last coal-fired and nuclear power plants are to be taken off the grid and shut down. Nobody knows where the electricity will come from. One thing is certain: wind and sun won’t do it."www.thegwpf.com/no-more-electricity-for-germany/

That magic plug on the wall is only a few inches from the climate thermostat, haven't you noticed it?
The power will be created by burning fossil fuels to spin steam turbines. Then sent long distance over high voltage lines. Seems like the loss of efficiency from transporting the electricity over long distance power lines vs burning the fossil fuels directly in the vehicles offsets any gains from centralization. Not to mention, the costly and non-environmentally friendly vehicle batteries. You can't get something for nothing...

They should be careful as some of the local peasantry may decide that they want to give "them" their just reward in this world, rather than the next.

Some sort of a national CNG distribution system sounds possibly more interesting to me. I wouldn't mind plugging my car into that socket. We have oceans of natural gas.
