From one of the articles linked herein ... In response to Britons freezing to death, the UK MET office published a fine paper in 2011 [6] explaining how new data showed that changes in the spectrum of energy leaving the Sun was much larger than previously known (one of these known unknowns) and they presented a computer model that showed how change in UV could drive the observed change in atmospheric circulation and account for the abnormally cold winter of 2010.
Spectral Irradiance Monitor satellite measurements indicate that variations in solar ultraviolet irradiance may be larger than previously thought. Here we drive an ocean–atmosphere climate model with ultraviolet irradiance variations based on these observations. We find that the model responds to the solar minimum with patterns in surface pressure and temperature that resemble the negative phase of the North Atlantic or Arctic Oscillation, of similar magnitude to observations. In our model, the anomalies descend through the depth of the extratropical winter atmosphere. If the updated measurements of solar ultraviolet irradiance are correct, low solar activity, as observed during recent years, drives cold winters in northern Europe and the United States, and mild winters over southern Europe and Canada, with little direct change in globally averaged temperature. [6] With the culmination of solar cycle 24 fast approaching in around 2021, we will shortly discover if low solar activity does indeed cause freezing cold winters in Europe.
Check? 2/13/21
Check Missouri ✔ Howdy folks, hope everyone is doing ok? Especially those in frigid US States atm....very very good news for Astros forecast from years ago! Tho 'good' perhaps not best word. UK too has been very chilly, was out with youngest yesterday messing around on shallow frozen ponds, 2" think ice which we haven't seen since he was a baby ie 2010. Short and sharp really, warming now but jet is incredibly loopy so.... ENSO.... too early to say, but nothing suggests we won't go deeper into Nina territory this year, warm water is not currently progressing east. Solar, 3 days spotless right now, 53% this year, perhaps more spotless then expected after quite an uptick in recent months? Do remember, at a time when China, Russia, Japan, N America, Europe and bits of N Africa all experience exceptional cold at some point...its all because of Arctic amplification and this subject is very well understood unlike solar influences about which we know nothing. Bit distracted these days by oscillators, LFOs and randomisation patterns.....always watching atmospheres, oceans and space, ill pop back if anything occurs 😊

So I get the subtropical jetstream passing South of here sometimes all the way to North coast of South America. All the associated weather bands move with them so the desert areas under the Hadley/Ferrel downdrafts are to the equator side and the weather under the polar jet of the Ferrel cells in the northern hemisphere is now running through North Africa, Turkey, Texas and Louisiana. Wisconsin winter weather is now down in Arkansas. Need to turn up the Sun's volume control but that may not happen for a few years. I don't know if Astro completely agrees with Abdussmatov but it could easily be several cycles before we get back to warm.... We just have to hope that we are not close enough to the Glacial attractor and the Holocene does not end as we drop back into a full glacial period. There will still be those trying to blame CO2 and saying 'We told you so' its got cold because of AGW

OK, Astro some fun. Read your stuff and absorb it's a story that needs attention.
Now for the most pressing weather of the year. Tomorrow is 1st race of the America's Cup down here on course A, D or E at 4pm local time will the wind be below 10Kn or above, It's supper critical to the Italian and NZ world.
I know a flippant request but a sign, please!

one all today great day of racing. Friday two more races.
Geo-blocking, how clever are you, silly question, TVNZ live view has it. Plus a raft of other players have after-market stuff.

Youtube good. "Emirates Team New Zealand"? ? ? Was that a specific request (or oversight) of comrade Jacinda?
