This is a 'sunk costs' logic issue:
We will have "wasted all the previous efforts if we let things go now..." this is a fallacy but the politicians are right into that hole now.

What is this logic?  Is heat at the poles not dependent on a transfer of heat from the tropics?  Wilde's theory suggests that a decline in electo-magnetic radiation during less-energetic solar cycles, or the minimums between cycles, results in weaker Hadley cells, a coincident decline in sub-tropical pressures, and a weaker tropical-polar pressure gradient.  Mann seems to postulate that, somehow (not explained) CO2 does this all on its own.  Or, as stated recently, Climate change has altered the Earth's tilt ... www.space.com/climate-change-tilting-earth-axis.
