Natural Gas if five times cleaner than coal. And they are going to ban it to combat climate change? Madness... I am glad I live in Texas where we are not "told" what we can and can't use to keep our families warm... I do not fully understand the liberal mindset. Once a beautiful and clean city Seattle has turned into a cesspool. The longterm effects of out of control liberalism. There have been quite a few police officers in my family and I have been acquainted with many more over the years. Our police forces ... oops, services now deal with clients. Beat cops are more likely to be investigated, suspended, or sacked than supported by their superiors. In many cases, squad car drivers are told to terminate pursuit by the dispatcher. Lack of support up the chain of command means police tend not to look for trouble, a 'don't rock the boat' attitude. Morale is low.

Astro, I appreciate the very detailed forecast and putting it here for everyone to see. I live in the good old uk and would appreciate your thoughts on how things will play out here. I know its probably different to work out due to such things as the jetstream and the Atlantic conveyor which keeps our isles warmer than they should be but any thoughts as to what to expect? The feeling I have is for an early winter and potential snow but I am only a humble weather watcher without your resources to pull upon. Wdik...

Astro, thanks for the forecast. One of the things I like about this forum is the input from the regulars. It's clear you are very bright and work very hard at your forecasts. Over the years you have given me a lot to think about.

Have been watching earth null, what with the blob out in the Pacific, and I've been interested in how quickly large blocks of water have been changing temps quickly. Wouldn't be surprised to see the blob gone in 2 months. Things can happen very quickly! Tbh that blob has been a regular feature on and off for a while....

Positive Indian Ocean Dipole persists as ENSO remains neutral The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) remains neutral. The positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) continues to be the main influence on Australian climate.
The IOD index has generally been above the positive IOD threshold since mid-July. The broader Indian Ocean patterns of sea surface temperature, cloud, and wind have been positive IOD-like since late May, contributing to dry conditions affecting most of Australia.
All climate models surveyed by the Bureau indicate the positive IOD is likely to continue for the southern hemisphere spring. Typically, a positive IOD brings below average winter–spring rainfall to southern and central Australia, above average daytime temperatures for the southern two-thirds of Australia, and an increased fire risk in the southeast.
The tropical Pacific Ocean remains neutral with respect to the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Atmospheric and oceanic indicators of ENSO are generally close to average, reflecting neutral tropical Pacific cloud and rainfall patterns.
Most climate models indicate the tropical Pacific is likely to remain ENSO-neutral for the rest of 2019 and into early 2020, meaning other climate drivers, like the IOD, are likely to remain as the primary influences on Australian and global weather. BoM Outlook
